Can I get a federal position with an Associate degree in Computer programming or Cybersecurity?

I’m 40 and making a career pivot. The 2-year degree seems like the cheapest practical way to get verifiable IT education and get a foot in the door to get some experience. Does the federal government hire IT candidates with a 2-yr degree?
Anonymous
Might be able to get in the door as a contractor, but highly unlikely as a fed without a 4-year degree (or higher).

I have a 4-yr degree and a master’s in something completely unrelated to IT. Would that count?

Will the federal government hire IT workers with no experience?

What’s your highest degree right now?

MBA

You'd likely need some type of experience in addition to the two year degree. Too many applicants with 4 year degree's or IT experience. Feds will hire candidates with no degree; those hired will likely have several years experience.

PP

Too many applicants with 4 year degree's in an IT related major.

OP what salary are you aiming for? Are you in a position where you can put in a couple of years at a low grade and then get promoted?

I work in cybersecurity (IA) and the vast majority of my coworkers were ex-military. The education ranges from high school diploma to 4 year college degree. Cybersecurity is all about the certs. Get a Security+ or CASP and you will be employed tomorrow as a contractor while you wait for a Fed position. I have worked as a contractor, a Fed, and in a tech company. There is zero unemployment in cyber right now.

That's interesting. University Colorado Boulder graduate school degree in cybersecurity head of department just told students there are no jobs. They charge $40,000 for the progam.

Do you mind sharing your salary for each of those roles?
How long did you work as a contractor before getting the Federal position?

Were you a veteran or ex-military?

How did they convert your contractor role to a fed position?

Get a masters in computer science instead.
