APS: No school Friday (3rd-12th)?

Anonymous
A teacher brought this up today but I had not heard about this. ANOTHER day to prepare?
Anonymous
Yes.

Yeah, slipped in to last week's APS Friday 5 email:

5. Schedule Changes for March 5 and April 5

To better support both students and teachers, we are adjusting the upcoming instructional schedule. Fri, March 5 will be No School for Grades 3-12 students, as teachers have a planning day to prepare for the concurrent model. Mon, April 5 will be a synchronous, distance learning day for ALL students, to support uninterrupted instruction during the final week of third quarter. Additional details are available here.

Haven't teachers had enough days not teaching from other non-synchronous days to prepare?
Anonymous
True. They've also warned to expect the next few weeks to be potentially disrupted, ie. more lost instructional time.

Not a single person who advocated to open schools now should complain about anything at all beginning this week. Not the classroom experience, not lunch, not supplies, not whether instruction is happening. Nothing.

You must not know any teachers. You have no idea the workload that going concurrent means for teachers, especially secondary. Just like virtual, except worse. Concurrent is the worst possible model for educators.

It was in another email Duran sent about back to school. Except the email had a link to "read the full text" and the part about the days off was behind the link!

In addition to Durans message, you should’ve gotten a message from your weekly newsletter from your school and PTA. The information is there if you read it.

The cuncurrent teachers will be using all sorts of new camera arms and connections to the smart boards to help loop in virtual kids. They are being trained on this specifically tomorrow.

Yep. You’d think the teachers have no idea what they are doing.

They really aren’t publicizing it at all, IMO. Snuck it into a long email a week or so ago.

Meh. Arlington loves “the Arlington Way,” which means that you will hear the opinions of vocal types on every subject from how to seal a baggie to Dr Duran’s pocket square. You might want to go off grid for a few weeks if you don’t want to hear back to school opinions, because they’re coming.

It hasn’t been hidden. I’m not the most in touch parent but I’ve known about it for weeks. It’s on the calendar and has been in APS communications. I’ve heard about it from my kids’ schools (and my kids!) as well.

LOL! I think you mean that they will train themselves on how to use them tomorrow.

Right?! Here’s a manual, a video, a bunch of new expectations, and equipment. Now go.

Dumb question - will school buildings be open on Friday if, for example, a parent needs to pick up printed materials on hold there for her kid?
