Are any of you sending your preschooler to Francis-Stevens?

We are in-boundary and got a spot in Francis-Stevens PS. I didn't go to the open house in February, but read the report posted here and it sounded really promising. We aren't definite about sending DD because the program is new and we don't know enough about it to make a final decision -- but we're very excited. I would love to hear more from any of you who got in too (or are on the waitlist and are hoping for a spot). And is there some sort of listserv/online group for parents?

Yes, welcome. There's 4-5 in-boundary parents (Foggy Bottom/West End/Dupont) who are definitely enrolling. We were schocked that all neighborhood families didn't get in and there are 2 more on the wait list. There's a whole other OOB group from Gtown, Glover Park, and Burleith we know on the wait list too. The Prek still has slots available and families in that grade will also benefit from all the new plans for next year.

We have been meeting with the Principal and DCPS for the last month to put the plans together for next year. A lot has been going on and we can forward you all the details. We're going to have another meeting in the next few weeks. There is a lot to be excited by. It will be play-based, and the start of a Reggio-inspired program. Outdoor play 2x a day and lots of field trips.

In the spring and summer, we'll have playdates at the playground and a pool party at Francis pool so the preschoolers can get to know the school and each other better.

You can send your contact info to fs_preschoolparents@yahoo.com. We're looking forward to meeting you.
