Will a purple mask achieve the same results as purple shampoo?

Anonymous
I need to tone the brass out of my hair. I dont relish spending a ton of money on shampoo + conditioner that I will use intermittently. I have come across a few hair "masks." If you have used one, do you find hair mask as effective as purple shampoo? If no, which purple shampoo do you swear by? thanks!

There are some inexpensive purple shampoos out there—I know my mom gets them for my dad and I’m sure she doesn’t pay Sephora prices for them.

Thanks. Have you used purple shampoo masks? That is the question.

Fanola No Yellow shampoo, like most. The shampoo is more effective than a conditioner. I only keep it for 1 to 1.5 minutes, c any longer and my hair turns light lilac )

I think the masks are a waste of money unless you are committed to never shampooing your hair. You can get the same effect using a purple shampoo once or twice a week.

My favorites are Pureology and Kristin Ess, which is much less expensive than other brands and smells great. I find them both to be gentle, which I value on bleached hair.

I would not buy purple conditioner unless your hair is very prone to brassiness -- usually you get the toning you need from the shampoo, and I'd rather follow with a very nourishing conditioner or non-purple hair mask to keep my hair healthy.

Honestly, one $30 bottle of purple shampoo will last me like 4 months. It's nothing when factored into the total cost of highlights and color.

Yes, they're great and I find them more effective than the shampoo, plus way less drying which almost all purple shampoos are. I like the Fanola No Yellow. Christophe Robin and Kerastase also make nice versions.

I find the Revlon purple shampoo and conditioner to work great!

I have dark hair and start using it a few weeks after my hair color. It keeps it from getting brassy or a reddish tone.

I have been able to stretch the professional hair color from 5 weeks to 6 weeks.

Oh--I go lighter on the purple shampoo and heavier on the purple conditioner and let it sit for 5 minutes or so while soaping up.

Use a professional quality toner, like wella or Schwarzkopf Vibrance

PP who loves the masks. Fanola is really the best for this. They have both a no Orange (darker hair types) and a No Yellow (Blondes). They work beautifully.

Well, this was the stated problem. So, maybe touch out?
