Best cellhone plans for kids

I need recommendations for cheap phone plans that won’t break the bank for an 11year old. Want something that would give her some data access while she’s out and the ability to text/call as needed but cheaper than regular plans. Please only respond if you have great plans to recommend, not debating why the 11 year old needs a phone ( modern parenting/multiple house logistics). Thanks in advance

don't overthink this...

just per them on a family plan with your shared account. the last thing you want is a defined data plan. thats just asking for the kid to overuse and you end with large data bills.

just make sure that you do NOT link a credit card to the itunes/app store, et account.

Everyone in my household uses TracFone. For $125/year you get 1500 minutes, 1500 texts and 1.5 GB of data. In four years, I've never run out of any of those things, but if you did you could just add more. My kids are 14 and 17 and this plan has been more than enough for them, as well. If you did want a bit more, there is also a $199 plan that gives you unlimited minutes/texts and 12 GB of data.

Why would you not just add them to your plan.

Verizon it is $25 - $55/month depending on how many devices you have. We do the $55, because it comes with Disney+, Hulu, ESPN, Apple Music, cloud storage and up to 30 Gigs of unthrottled hotspot.

You can get the basic kid plan with tracking and parental controls for $35.

If my kids want more data, they can buy it for $10 a pop. If they need more texts, they can buy 1000 for $5. I had tracfone for the past 18 yrs. My kids still have tracfone. I just switched over to ATT prepaid for $300/yr. I get 8gb data per month. Unlimited talk/text. But, my kids don't actually TALK to anyone! They text or they use apps for discussions. They use wifi all the time since they hardly leave home!

I can't speak for all service, but Tracfone uses major carriers including Verizon, T-Mobile and AT&T. If I have to register my carrier for something, I select AT&T, for example. So I assume you'd be "prioritized" at the same level as the rest of the people using your particular carrier.

Check out twigby. We’ve used it for the past two years. Very affordable and good service for us. (They use the Verizon network)

Im not with verizon but T-mobile, i added her to my plan and its an extra $50, sounds miniscule but i dont see the point of spending $600/year on a phone that she barely uses outside of the house

Per year. I suppose if you’re streaming a lot of audio or video it could be a problem but honestly, there’s wifi available almost everywhere, basic surfing uses very little data, and we download movies onto our phones to watch away from home, so I’ve never run out.
