Considering induction range to replace gas in kitchen reno

Anonymous
Curious if others have done this and whether you later regretted it at all? We're interested in induction because of the environmental and health impacts of gas cooking.

Would also love to hear if you have an induction range that you'd recommend. (And yes, have read previous threads on recommendations).

I’m really into cooking and I wouldn’t ever take out a gas stove to do induction. If you don’t cook often, it doesn’t really matter, go with whatever you like best.

Are you ever planning to sell? If so, consider that those who are into cooking (like me and PP) might be turned off.

I had an induction cooktop in a house we rented, and I hated it. Everyone who used it hated it. The controls were not intuitive and it produced much less heat than gas. If you don’t cook a lot, it’s probably ok.

This is a dumb comment...from someone who has never cooked with induction? There are professional chefs who prefer induction in their homes.

Its personal preference. When we remodeled I put in electric.

I love cooking, and am happy with induction over gas. I spent a lot of time looking over specs for induction with higher power.

I boil water so quickly at home that I get bored waiting for a gas stove to do the same at rentals - even high end gas.

I did have to run one thick 50 amp electrical line to the cooktop.

It's a GE Profile with 3700 watts from the big burner.

I have a cafe induction stove top and love it. It heats up really quickly and adjusts temperature easily. Not sure what type a PP had that didn’t have much heat. It has a separate control for each burner and a touch screen for working the oven. I have even paired it to my Alexa so I can verbally tell my oven to preheat. I also have the Hestan Cue app that pairs with a smart pan and walks you through perfect cooking temps. I don’t use it often b/c I generally know how long to cook things, but I did make absolutely perfect scallops one time.

I think we will all get there eventually because of the air quality issues but for now I would go ahead and move the gas line if you are moving the stove and just call it. Otherwise you’ll be hurting yourself for resale.

I’m PP, I didn’t say I’ve never cooked with induction. Overwhelmingly professional chefs prefer gas. Good luck pan searing on your induction cooktop, or using a wok.

We have a Wolf induction cooktop that I love, but we were going from electric only (no gas to our house). Prior to this I had always preferred gas, but I'm totally on board with the induction now (it's been 6 years).

I should add it is plenty hot enough to sear meat, but I have not used a wok with it (a PP noted these).

Im not sure exactly which one, but it was a high-end European manufacturer.

We’ve had induction and gas and I prefer induction. Also we chose it so one day if we got solar panels it could still work.
