Invite whole class or just a few friends for park birthday

Anonymous
We were going to invite a few of my child’s friends to the park to celebrate her birthday. I wanted to keep group small because of covid. Then I thought these kids are in preschool together anyway and we will be outside.

Would you invite the whole class?

I don’t want to hurt any feelings. I am normally one who includes everyone including siblings.

Invite the entire classroom - not all will come anyway and you'll have a nice group - one adult per child, and they need to wear masks, distance as much as possible, etc. (assuming it's a little kid party and you need an adult for each kid)

How many in the class?

What is the gathering limit in your jurisdiction?

I think either way is fine if you will be under the legal limit with adults included. But be sure to state on the invite how many are invited so people know the size and can decide accordingly.

Historically i did whole class.

Pandemic - just a handful of friends masked & outdoors

Since my kids were 3, I've let my kids make their own guest list. I never believe in inviting the entire class, and discourage siblings.

Is it necessary to have a party when they are all together all day anyway? Just send cupcakes and hats and goody bags in to school and call it a day. a 3 or 4 year old will not care. Special feels special regardless of when it occurs.

Strange reply.

We always invite the whole class. I have been told by some kids it's the only party they ever get invited to. I'll never forget one kid coming with his older sibling because he wasn't allowed to take the bus across town alone.

Why are you having a birthday party during a pandemic?

Even if all the kids are in class together, a playground gathering would include siblings and adults. Due to the pandemic I would just keep it small. It’s small, informal, and quite honestly wouldn’t be a draw except to closest friends due to the weather.

You can invite the whole class, but because of the pandemic you run a chance that the kids your DC actually gets along the best won't turn up and some that they don't care for would be there. Be prepared that some parents won't accept the invite. So, a better and safer thing to do is to limit the number of guests.

Actually think it's smart, if this is the entire friend group anyway.

We’ve never done whole class parties. Just allow her to pick 2-3 friends, and because it’s a pandemic, no siblings and one parent per child.

If you are inclined to invite the whole class, I’d do that. It’s outside. Just keep to the rules of your jurisdiction.
