New Air Force One interior changes revealed

I like it. I can't stand Trump but in this case - he made good choices. I always just assumed the Presidential Bedroom aboard AF1 had a Queen or King sized bed already - the plane is so huge! Turns out they've been sleeping on twin-sized ones the whole time.

The details can be seen on the National Geographic special - The New Air Force One: Flying Fortress.

Given Trump slept by himself and Biden doesn't, it makes sense.

I like the old bedroom. The new bedroom looks like a comfort inn suite.

I hate to defend Trump but this is the design since the Kennedys revealed the color scheme in the 60s. None of the presidents got to sleep with their spouses with this archaic set-up.

Are you kidding? The old bedroom is so tiny and uncomfortable it might as well be a Motel 6. I've seen better suites on Emirates or Etihad public airlines.

I like the old one too! It looks cozy. The new one looks massive. So much wasted space. Unattractive color scheme. Twin beds are fine. It’s a plane ride, not a hotel, sheesh.

Some of those plane rides are 4-6 hours depending on where in the continental United States the President is going on. Seeing as before the pandemic he would often be traveling long-haul multiple times a year (every President since 9/11 has gone to the Af-Pak region annually which is a 15-hour trip) plus state visits to foreign countries and global meetings - it definitely should not be some camp-ground twin bed.

That's aside from the fact that those folded down seats (notice both of the beds are just temporary set-ups) look both uncomfortable as f*ck and tawdry. I'm embarrassed. This is the type of seating/bedding to use in the pilot's cabin or maybe for a staff room (like for the Press Secretary or Chief of Staff to use).

Is this where we need to spend money?

Either those aren’t the same spaces, or they used some weird fisheye to make the new bedroom look bigger. Look at the windows.

Complete new plane design was approved and contracted in 2020. Delivery in 2024.

The new Air Force One was not created because they wanted to redesign the bedrooms. It was because the communications and defense technology was decades out of date.

No. We should instead spend it on the C-in-C’s golf trips and Secret Service protection for a half-dozen adult children.

4 more months and none of the Trump freeloaders have SS protection anymore.

Eh from a design standpoint the previous one had a lot more character and warmth. You could almost pretend it wasn't an airplane. The new one looks like an airline aesthetic, clinical and corporate, boring.

Small potatoes though, in the scheme of things.

Yes. International trips are especially grueling. I want POTUS as well rested and healthy as possible. The cost of this is a drop in the ocean of the annual budget.
