Been 10 months almost of excessive computer usage. Do you have blue light blocking glasses for kids? Which ones would you recommend? Been managing it all as a single mom, didn’t think about it till now but should have. |
Not expensive and can buy on Amazon |
There are also blue light blocker apps for screens as well as peel on peel off screen covers. But glasses are good too. |
Tons of choices on amazon. Kids have a couple different ones at my house, like them. |
I've heard they do nothing. |
They do absolutely nothing. I can’t believe people are blindly putting these on kids
|
If they do nothing, why are you so concerned? |
I imagine cause they will leave marks on face with constant use. I know my glasses do that after wearing them 5-6 hrs a day for a couple of years |
According to an American Academy of Ophthalmology report, “it’s not necessary to spend money on special [eyewear] for computer use.”
“There’s really no evidence that [blue light glasses] help,” said Amir Mohsenin, M.D., Ph.D., assistant professor in the Ruiz Department of Ophthalmology & Visual Science at UTHealth‘s McGovern Medical School. “We don’t really have any data that supports blue blocking glasses as being better for your eyes when you’re using a computer. In fact, I would say that we don’t know if there’s any potential harm in wearing blue block glasses. It’s hard to recommend something without knowing more details about it.” Done |
Well respected DC area pediatric Ophthalmologist says they do nothing. He said if eyes are sore, it is likely due to staring screen longer which equates to less blinking. Recommends artificial tear drops several times a day. |
Only reason to buy, not for sore eyes but for insomnia: https://www.discovermagazine.com/health/what-science-says-about-blue-light-blocking-glasses If your only issue after a long day in front of the computer is that you struggle to sleep at night, then blue light glasses might be what you’re looking for. Light exposure can tamp down melatonin — or “sleep hormone” — production in the brain. Blue light wavelengths in particular seem to have the most drastic dampening effects. The most straightforward remedy to this problem would be to put away screens at least two hours before bedtime, Rosenfield says. If that’s not an option, then pop on some blue-light-glasses in the evening or switch your devices to “night mode.” This setting lowers blue light in favor of less-disruptive red and orange hues. |
