This year I had to take off a couple days due to an emergency. When I entered my stuff on the smart express portal I noticed there was another option besides the usual (own sickness, family sickness) which was COVID sickness.
I asked HR but I haven’t been answered in my 3 emails nor do they take calls. Does anyone know if you get covid and are out you lose from your sick bank? Or you’re out but not lose from sick bank? It would be messed up to have worked hard and tirelessly in the past accumulating time off and now lose it all if say you’re out 4 weeks. |
They passed it at one of the December meetings. Staff members working IN PERSON ONLY get an addtional 5 (maybe it was 7?) Covid sick days. They do not accrue and cannot be used for other purposes. They exprire when the Gov of Virginia rescinds the emergency declaration. |
It’s not just 5 or 7. If you got it at the building through known exposure because you’re working in person there’s essentially no limit on it our admin said. I mean some teachers might get exposed 2-3 times all said and done. |
I watched the meeting (and all the others.) It was definitely a finite number of days. The objection you bring up was discussed, but ultimately not what passed. |
Soon, everyone will be working in-person. Will they also have access to those 5-7 days of covid absence? Plus, if they force you to quarantine for 14 days (that’s 10 school days) you’re essentially giving up your sick bank of 10 per year. I still find it shitty. Either way, I’m sure it’s another cause for celebration for DCUM parents. No? |
No because quarantining (but not sick) you are still working, just virtually. |
What about if ur actually sick (and this kuarantining) |
If you are actually sick, you use your Covid sick days and then your regular sick days. |
Who is supervising the kids in the classroom? The endless supply of subs? |
Or the kids are quarantining too. Stop trying to manufacture problems just because you don't want to do your job. |
Who says I don’t want to do my job? Rather, I don’t want to lose my livelihood when the sick bank runs out but I ain’t get paid. You gonna pay for my bills? No? Then STFU |
Other teachers on planning. Which means no teachers get to plan and will fall behind on lessons and grading, and the whole thing falls apart when there’s too many teachers out to cover for and the school has to go DL for a bit. |
Can’t wait for the chaos and the outbreaks. Who will the parents blame them? |
Nah, teachers still have an ENTIRE day on Monday to plan. Something they never had before. |
