Amphora Diner in Vienna - Closing?

Anonymous
Is it true the Amphora Diner in Vienna is closing? Is this temporary or permanent? Please - no food snobs saying the food was not good. We loved the cakes and have way too many memories of meals there at different hours of the day and night to withstand its closing.

Oh no! DH and I have soooo many memories there. I loved that Cobb Salad. We’ve left the area so I haven’t eat there in years, but that’s sad if true.

They and their partners have had major money issues, not paying taxes for YEARS, etc. So its sad but it also seems like some poor business choices led to this. Wish the best for them all and their staff.

I haven't verified this but a friend said that the Vienna location's taxes were increased to 5k per month at the same time that Covid was making their business struggle. They heard that condos will go in the location--similar to what will be happening where the Wolftrap hotel sits. They also said that the same thing will happen at the Giant shopping center location where Outback has already closed.

+1

I'll be sad too. It's been several years since we were last there but many fond memories.

You're kidding...that Giant and CVS are absolute gold mines, and both are important to the town. That would leave the town with no full-service grocery store. I can't believe the town would allow this.

I heard that they got an offer from a RE developer that they couldn't refuse. The Herndon location is staying open.

I thought I heard someone is opening a new pub restaurant there.

Using the building's address you can see that they were consistently behind on taxes and owed 58k+. The list goes back to 201--the year when the original co-founder passed away. Very sad.

Fat fingers--the list goes back to 2016

So MANY better greek restaurants around these days.
By the way Giant would not close, it would be renovated as part of the new development.

Not a fan of Amphora's food, but I live in Vienna, and I fear that they idea is to make everything multiple level with parking garages. No more small town feel and even more traffic congestion in the name of "smart development."

Last day is January 12. They announced on Facebook today.

A few ex employees talking about how they would get paid late or their paychecks would bounce.

I live in Vienna too and parking garages are better than parking lots. I am fine with density. However, I do not understand the development choices for that corridor, like the new storage units being built near Mill St. What a wasted opportunity.
