Darien or Greenwich?

What are the pros/cons of each town? Which is the better town to raise kids in and stay to retire in once an empty nester? Looking for beaches and good restaurants/good social life for kids and parents.

IMO Darien. Much more of a small town.

Greenwich has better schools and is closer to Manhattan. They are equidistant to Stamford.

Darien was where "The Ice Storm" was set.

Very similar looking once you get into the residential areas.

Have you visited yourself? You should do that.

Beaches are disgusting along the Long Island Sound, especially the closer you get to Manhattan. I grew up in Fairfield County.

I have. I like both. Not sure which is better from a lifestyle perspective though.

I’m from Stamford and went to school in Greenwich. I had tutoring in Darien. Depends what you like- Darien has a smaller town feel. Greenwich is more city-like in that it’s larger and has more things to do. If I was white, I’d be okay with Darien. As a PoC I’d pick Greenwich because it is more diverse.

Like down by the water. Greenwich HS / Eastern Middle School / Riverside or Old Greenwich ES /
A 10 minute walk to Old Greenwich train station.
