Brooklyn Heights by far but your opinion of better may differ from mine.

Brooklyn Heights is so lovely.... 😍

Brooklyn Heights - my DH grew up there. I like it because it has beautiful housing stock, neighborhood feel, good schools (public and private), proximity to the fabulous Brooklyn Bridge Park, and great access to a wide variety of train lines into the city. Montague St. isn't what it used to but you can't have everything.

BH is not adjacent to the Bowery which is supposed to be worlds away from how it was - a total no go zone - but I was there late 2019 and there are still huddles of homeless men sleeping in burned out store fronts and under scaffolding. Where are the shelters and where is the safety for everyone else I wonder.

Define “better”. Are you a young childless adult or a parent of two?

What an odd comparison - totally different neighborhoods. BH attracts mostly families while LES mostly young singles. Just depends on your profile and demographic.

These are two completely different neighborhoods. East Village is grungy and cool, Brooklyn Heights is a mecca for young (rich) families.

In what way? The EV is still one of the most "happening" neighborhoods in New York.

Unless you are a 24 year old artist with a large trust fund, BH wins hands down.

This is the image from the past. Yes, plenty of homeless people near the Bowery, but it’s pretty safe.
