When did you stop carrying a diaper bag?
I HAD to use one when DD was first born- I needed to have all that stuff with me all the time! But, now that she is 15 months I feel like I only really need a few diapers, some wipes, and a bib- and all of this will fit into my regular purse. Or, am I just jinxing myself by not carrying extra clothing for her with me.... |
| I keep the extra clothes in the car and only carry a diaper and wipes in my purse or stroller. |
| I never got the whole diaper bag thing--yes, you need them when they are newborn and commuting to daycare you need them. But when that is over or not in the picture, I preferred the minimal diaper and wipes approach. Never brought the change of clothes once poop blowouts were a thing of the past (for us they stopped when solids were introduced). Since I EBF for the first year, I had no need to carry bottles either. I like the skiphop escape pod. It is small enough I can toss it into my oversize purse. Later, during potty training, I did put a Potete in the car, along with extra pants and undies. |

I switched to a child's backpack fairly early on (which my son now uses for preschool).
I kept it in the car with extra change of clothes, a few first aid supplies, diapers and wipes, and a blanket in the winter. It stayed parked in the car 98% of the time. |
| I keep a bag in the car with diapers, change of clothes, etc. I take the bag with me if we are going to be anywhere for a while, otherwise, I carry a bottle and/or a diaper in my purse. |
tI've done this too. Now that DD is 2, I also have a potty in the car and a couple of car toys for longer trips, but it all stays in the car. |
| Do you people not use changing pads?? Does everyone just plop their kids poopy butts directly on the koala kare? This is why I still carry my skip hop changing pad/pod around |
| To the PP -- They make disposable changing pads and that's what we carry with us. DD is 18 months and I still end up carrying the diaper bag around because it has all her snacks and toys in it for when we're out and she's hungry/bored. I'd love to ditch it, but it's actually easier to just use the diaper bag already loaded w/all her stuff on the weekends and just keep my purse separate for work on the weekdays. I just move over my phone and wallet. |
I don't. I put the clean diaper underneath him, then undo the dirty one, clean him up, remove the dirty one, close the clean one, and voila. This wouldn't work if you'd had a blowout but he doesn't do that. If he does once, I'd rather use paper towels than always carry a pad with me. |
Except many bathrooms don't have paper towels. I always use a changing pad when changing in public, but since public restroom changing tables gross me out, I do that as little as possible. I still have a diaper bag (youngest is 28 months), but it only goes somewhere we will be a while, like for visits to other people's houses and stuff. Most times I don't even bother taking a diaper with me. I'm sure that will catch up with me at some point. |
| Love, love, love my patemm pad. It has pockets for diapers and wipes and is big enough to cover those skanky koala care things. Has also been a life saver on road trips when we were at restaurants and there were no changing stations to be found. |
| Sorry tp get slightly off track but how do you clean your changing pads? Are they washeable? |
| I just throw a ziploc with diapers and wipes in a purse like bag, and a bib if necessary. Can add a book or toy if necessary, and like having extra wipes since they get used for all manner of clean ups beyond diaper changes. We get the soft-sided packages that Costco sells in bulk, and I'll use one in the nursery until it's ~1/2 full, then bring that in my bag. |
| I have a patemm pad and I just wash it off with a soap and sponge, spray it with clorox anywhere, and dry it. |
| DC is 17 months, I still use mine. I just find it easy to have everything kid related in one place. I carry diapers, wipes, changing pad, extra outfit, snacks, bottle of water, sippy cup and maybe a book. I just stick all my stuff in the zipper pocket. I feel like if I didn't bring it with me that would be the time I needed something. I don't feel like it is that big of a hassel right now, maybe that will change. |
