I walked past a restaurant in my neighborhood last night

Anonymous
My family was outside later than usual (we have young kids) because the fire alarm in our apartment building went off. While we were waiting for the “all clear” we walked around and the block. I looked into the window of a restaurant on our block and it was PACKED inside. Of course the folks inside were maskless (because they were eating). But the main group I saw was standing around posing for pictures, arm in arm, no masks. Looked like a party of maybe 25 in Christmas sweaters. At first I thought they had rented the whole restaurant but then I saw there were other tables too. It was so jarring to see a large party of people all together, inside, no masks. Even my 3 year said, “maybe those people don’t know about the germ.” Do restaurants not have a limit on the number of people who can be in a party? This is in Arlington. Even if it was legal, it wasn’t wise.

What restaurant was this?

Yeah, this is why I have given up going anywhere. Too many people who don't care.

Is walking a high risk activity now?

I’m sorry to say that I’m not surprised by this OP. Disappointed, but not surprised. Businesses are allowing whatever they can get away with to stay afloat, there’s no enforcement, and so many people don’t care or don’t think they’ll get it or thinking of it as an individual illness and not a public health issue.

What gets me is so much of DCUM insisting that the community spread is from going to the grocery store (masked) or passing someone on the sidewalk that isn’t wearing a mask. Nope, it’s from people living normal lives as if there isn’t a virus.

Unfortunately yes because the risky people are walking around Willy nilly.

I am much less afraid of getting Covid now because we are basically staying home. When I do go out I can't believe the number of people out and about for sh*ts and giggles. Those are the people getting sick.

Murderers, every single one of them.

There is no excuse now, after 300 000 have died and the mode of transmission is well known.

Why didn’t you call the police, OP?

+1 million. How many grandparents and health care workers need to die to get through to these idiots. STAY HOME. Just stay the F home. I’m done with so many former friends who I used to think were decent people. No more.

In my state, you can report business violations on the dept of health website.

How does one do this in Virginia?
Anonymous
There is a wide variation in how businesses are enforcing distancing. It sounds like they are doing terribly. I think indoor dining should be closed but it’s also how my family makes the bulk of our income. It’s a really tough call. FWIW many restaurants are limiting capacity and refusing to seat groups larger than 6.
