| Need recommendations for goalie coach for ten year old girl in MoCo or NW Dc. Clinic could also possibly work. |
| too young for specific coaching like that. i would hope a goalie coach says the same or they are just taking your money. |
That is an absolute ridiculous thing to say. A ten year old can learn goal keeping skills that will help in all aspects of soccer. The right coach teaches foot skills, endurance, strength and soccer intelligence at any age. Some kids lean towards a position early and can work on those skills and still not completely specialize until the time is right. |
Not always true. Its ok to have Gk specific training that age. She will get field player training at her team practice. Nobody ever says extra field player training shouldn't be done that young. So why not extra Gk training. Its total BS to say thats too young to learn and train a GK. If they play Gk or have a desire to get better at to the position. ANY & ALL training should be encouraged PERIOD. If they choose to play Gk at any age. God forbid they enjoy it and get better with training. Ignorant people who have never played or coached the GK position don't understand how different its and what it takes to develop that position. |
ok you are right. i am sorry for saying so ridiculous. i will start preparing my toddler for college classes now. you know he will need the skills asap |
Hey asshat with no soccer knowledge. Why would deny your kid any opportunity to get better at anything they want to do. Think about it if you play with Gks in your game. The responsible thing to do to Is teach the position during regular team training. Those who seek out extra training shouldn't be denied it or be discouraged. |
again you are so right i can't wait to see Johnny using all his skills next year on the pitch |
| Try coach up John Hollinger . Young guy great with younger goalies. very flexible schedule will work with yours. |

Sorry. Messed up earlier post.
- Ed Brown. Is fantastic and helped my child go leaps and bounds. Four different sessions across DMV and Baltimore on the weekends. https://www.academyonegoalkeeping.com/ |

Absolutely seconded. OP, I have a boy about the same age in Maryland. I spoke to Ed Brown this fall. We talked for about 45 minutes about my son, goalkeeping training, and what skills are actually important to develop at this age and going forward. I really liked his philosophy and approach to GK training. Ultimately, he connected us with high school seniors/D1 goal commits to provide some local training for a VERY reasonable price without having to travel. He also invited us out to his weekly training sessions, but right now the closest one in my son's age range is about an hour and a half from us and is scheduled for a weekday, so we haven't been to one yet. I'll let him make his own points if you reach out to him, but he did say that the most important thing at this age for goalkeepers is to make sure that they keep up on their foot skills. He said that the biggest thing that holds most goalies back later on is poor foot skills, passing, etc. Since such a high percentage of goalie touches come from back passes, good footwork and distribution really is a must. According to him, most coaches are looking for a goalie that "could at least make the team as a field player." Things like handling, reaction time, size, etc. are almost taken as a given for keepers at a certain level. I've also heard great things about Laurie George/Pells Keeper School, but I don't have any direct experience with her. |
