Do you have a daily morning routine?

Anonymous
A lifestyle coach/therapist suggested to create a detailed routine upon waking up for a family member who was depressed.
I am intrigued by this idea as this is similar to my parents philosophy of having a firm routine in the morning and before sleeping. I have found that I have 2-3 hours in the morning and 2 hours in the night before sleeping, that I try and adhere to a firm routine. If I do not do this for a few days, things around me start to unravel a bit.

Here is what I do for the first 1 hr now that my kids are older -
1) Wake up at 5 am and pray.
2) Drink a glass of lemon water and take my prescription meds
3) Make my bed
4) Bathroom, personal grooming, dental hygiene, shower, dress for the day
5) Turn off the porch light
6) Water my plants
7) Fold laundry from the night before and empty the dishwasher.
8) Make and have my first cup of tea.

What do you do in the first hour(s) of your day?

That's pretty good. I need to incorporate exercise in my morning routine desperately. Having a dog forces you to exercise twice a day.

I don't get any exercise in, in the first hour. The second hour is pretty much breakfast and cooking for the day. (which works for us and I don't mind because that way meals stop being an issue for my 6 member family). But after that, I am genuinely not in the mood to do exercise because I am sort of tired with all that standing. I guess I have to get at least some exercise in (maybe 10 minutes to start with) before I start cooking.

5:30 or 6 - get up when my 4 year old does, lay down on the couch drinking a glass of water
maybe read or play a little
unload the dishwasher
boil water for chicory soy drink, take vitamins
7:30- breakfast, usually some scrambled egg and veg or oatmeal
load dishes in sink, brush teeth, throw laundry in, vacuum one level of the house

Morning: Make bed, get dressed, workout, make coffee/eat something, go to work.

Evening: pack lunch for next day, pack up anything else I need to take for the next day, set workout clothes abd regular clothes on bathroom counter (I won’t talk myself out of working out if everything is ready,) and sometimes I set up the dumbbells and kettlebells I need for the workout and review the plan. Sometimes I’ll brew my morning espresso the night before since I drink it iced anyway, if it’s cooled off it won’t melt the ice.

None of these are set in stone—they’re just things I do because they make my life run smoother.

Up at 6:15 or so. Brush teeth, take BP meds head to kitchen. Make a cup of coffee, read NYT, have a quick breakfast, shower, dress and out the door at 7:45. Rinse and repeat the next day.

I guess so..wake up 5:45AM, let dog out, sit and drink coffee and read newspaper etc online until 6:15
6:15-6:45 shower, dress
6:45 wake kids, breakfast etc
Kids leave for school and /or begin online school at 7:30
7:30-8/8:30 long morning walk with the dog, chatting with neighbors etc along the way. Sometimes we go to a dog park instead.

I work out later in the day.

When you have animals you have to, OP.

I get up, take my thyroid med, after which I'm not supposed to eat for 30 minutes, which gives me just enough time to get dressed, prepared some fresh fruit and veggies for the parrot and do a rapid clean-up of her cage, and get the dog out for a quick run around the block. Then I relax with a huge cup of tea, plus egg and toast, and read the news.

My Morning Routine is:
Drink a large glass of cold water
Stretch and do push ups
Hygiene + dress
Make bed
Breakfast

Review plan / schedule for the day and the week
id my Most Important Task of the Day

I have these items on an index card that I move in my daily planner each day so that I see it and do it

Get up.
Get kids up.
Get coffee.
Have oatmeal...kids have breakfast.
go to my home office; kids go log on in their rooms for school.
at some point during my work day--I might walk the dog (though kids and husband now do so not always--only when I want fresh air)
Depending on day of the week -- Mondays 8:10 am exercise class; Fridays 10am exercise class
Tues, Wed Thurs. I run or do peloton after my work day ends or during lunch break,

I generally try to have lunch with kids. I shower before bed.
Dinner 5:30 (husband makes 60% of time; me the other 40%)
I shower/take hot bath at night.
4 nights per week we both drive a kid to a sports' practice...if no practice we all have family time watching a show.
DH and I watch a show together after kids go to bed--or spend time in bed.

This is my hodge podge version since Covid started.

Very surprised at how many of the pps don't have a job.
