spin class recommendations (okay peloton)

Anonymous
We use the peloton app for yoga and cycling (have a different spin bike). I'm looking for recommendations for some favorite classes (specifics). I tend to like the 80s rides and do a lot of Ben, Alex, Sam, Tunde, Ali, Robin, and Leanne. Willing to try others but like an organized class (so gave up on Olivia) or too much life commentary (so gave up on Emma and Jenn).

Dennis and Christine both do very organized classes.

You would probably also like Matt Wilpers in addition to Denis like the PP recommended. His classes are highly organized and he is a great coach.

Thanks! If anyone has a specific 30min or 45min class they just liked a lot, please suggest!

+1 to Wilpers. Have you tried the Power Zone series?

Power zone does not translate well if you don’t have the actual peloton bike.

Matt's music is dreadful. His classes are well organized but his music is awful. It is my main reason for no longer participating PZP Challenges, all Angie schedules is Matt rides (at least 2 of the three core rides is only a Matt option) and I cannot stand Matt's music.

Denis and CDE have solid music rides. CDE's New Wave rides are fun. Both have well structured rides with good music. CDE is a bit more motivational/inspirational in some of her rides. You don't know if you are going to get a few stories and good music or motivational CDE from ride to ride. Denis is more predictable with his stories and structure. He is less likely to go into inspirational motivational territory.

You can do PZ rides on a non-Peloton bike. I believe there is are power monitoring pedals that you can buy and wazoo meter, I could have the name wrong, that you can use to get the outputs that make PZ easier. There are plenty of folks doing PZ on non-Peloton bikes.

I don't have specific rides because I tend to ride a ride once and not go back to it. I bounce around Tabata, HIIT and Hills, Climbs, and PZ rides.

Denis had a great 80's ride that I don't think was PZ. CDE just had a solid 80's ride that was a PZ. The Dual Prince ride was all sorts of awesome. Check the Artist series for specific artist rides.

You don't think Olivia's classes are organized? She's the hardest instructor by far. Give her another try. I also like Kendall. I like both of their HIIT and Hills and Power Zone rides.

If anyone has info on power monitoring, I’d be interested. I have non peloton bike with wahoo cadence monitor and can’t do PZ rides.

Yesterday I did Denis' 30 minute rock ride from 11/23 and thought it was excellent. Very well structured, and he always knows the cadences and interval lengths ahead of time. I hate when instructors wing it (or act like they're winging it).

Olivia's class are well structured but really high cadence and she is not the most interesting instructor. Matt, Sam, Olivia all fall into the same category for me, great structure and information but bland personalities when they ride. They don't really motivate me, but that is me. I enjoy Matt's low impact for the pedal drills and Sam for recovery rides because he is easy to ride with when you need a chill ride.

Ally and Hannah F are instructors who I love who are not explosive personalities but have great structure and amazing rides without being boring as instructors.

CDE, Denis, Cody, Robin, Alex are instructors who are more high personality in their rides. I like Denis and CDE, not a big fan of Robin and Alex's style.

The best part of Peloton is that there are a ton of instructors who meet different peoples needs.

Consider joining the Official Peloton Member FB group where people often share specific class information. There are also groups dedicated to favorite instructors like the BooCrew for Cody's classes. You'll probably get the detailed class suggestions you're looking for via the FB pages instead on DCUM.

How do I find Matt’s classes that include pedal drills? I’ve done a couple and neither included drills.

I’m struggling to use my hamstrings during classes.

Gotta recommend the Peloton Reddit group, too. I’ve found them to be friendlier.

I did one the other day that was a low impact class. Search for those.
