Need suggestion for 2nd baby book

Anonymous
Any recomendations for a good parenting book about bringing a new baby into the home for your second child? My daughter will be 22 months when we have our 2nd and I have tons of questions about how to handle it.

How to be a Baby, by Me The big sister and Sally Lloyd-Jones is *hilarious*. Maybe a little high level for your 2 year old but definitely check it out. The other books we liked very much were: Sears & Sears What Baby Needs, the Big Sister book by Joanna Cole (probably at a 2yo level) and Mommy Laid an Egg by Babette Cole (loooved this one). HTH

oh sorry, you didn't mean books for your kid, you meant for you. Siblings Without Rivalry by Adele Faber (i think?) is good, will help you think carefully about how you frame things but is meant really for siblings as they grow older. HTH

When I was preg with DD#2, someone recommended this book to me:

Welcoming Your Second Baby, by Vicky Lansky
http://www.amazon.com/Welcoming-Your-Second-Vicki-Lansky/dp/193186344X/ref=pd_bbs_sr_7?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1205935347&sr=8-7

I found it pretty helpful with some of the suggestions and tips (Telling the older sibling that "My hands are full" rather than "I can't because I'm holding the baby" (or whatever) was my favorite... it helped remove some of the jealosy toward the new baby...

We also had the Paula Cole "I'm a Big Sister" book, which we loved. We would read it to DD#1, who was about 2-1/2 at the time... it emphasizes all the things a Big Sister can do that the baby can't do yet...

Someone also suggested that we have DD#2 give a gift (a baby doll) when DD#1 came to the hospital to meet her new little sister...

Best of luck to you, and CONGRATS!

Ah! PP just reminded me. My favorite suggestion (from Nancy Hoover, RN extraordinaire at Kensington Peds) was to tell the baby every now and then when it's fussing: "Sorry, baby, I can't pay attention to you now bz (older child's name) needs me right now." Ear to ear grins guaranteed from older sibling -- it's a winning line.
