i'm looking at 2 used subarus and am paying cash.
2013 SUBARU IMPREZA with 59k miles, 1 owner with 7 year ownership, car hit a deer per carfax report. 2014 SUBARU XV CROSSTREK 2.0 PREMIUM: 99k miles, no accidents, 2 owners, appears to have kept up on scheduled maintenance. which one? |
| You forgot to include the prices |
sure but i worry about getting into other rabbit holes but here goes: 2013 Subaru Impreza: asking price $8900 2014 Subaru XV Crosstrek asking price is $11,000 |
| I'd go with the Impreza just for the lower mileage. Every Subaru I've owned (3 of them) is an incredibly reliable car until somewhere around 150,000 miles, then things start falling apart. They've never left me stranded on the side of the road (looking at you, Ford), but maintenance gets much more frequent and pricey. That extra 40K of mileage will make a difference. |
| Imprezas (assuming they are just vanilla Imprezas) are old lady cars that are unlikely to have been abused |
Honest question, why do you think omitting the prices would help us enable you to make a better decision? |
Yeah. Is it an Impreza (sedan) or Impreza Sport (hatchback -- very cool)? |
| I’d go with the Impreza - would the owner be willing to disclose the repairs required for the deer hit accident? As long as nothing structural was damaged I’d be good to go. Replacing a bumper, headlights etc is nothing serious. |
|
Neither. The transmissions in both are CVT garbage, very near the end of their service life.
Plan on dropping $7,000 for a new transmission within a few years. |
jeez! ok..i'll move on. I can't stomach that type of repair. |
Don't listen to this guy. I have a 2012 Impreza with over 100k miles and I've never replaced the transmission. It's definitely getting to the point where it needs more maintenance (some annoying fixes for the power windows and locks), but it's been a very reliable car otherwise. Most other subaru owners I know have the same experience. |
I really want the crosstrek but worry about the mileage. I'm just coming off a money pit Audi that started to give me issues right around the 60k mark even though I maintained it with extra love. So i'm price sensitive and find subarus attractive-i don't want the same headaches however and these cme up as relatively reliable. |
About 15% of CVT’s in Subaru’s made since 2013 *ARE GOING TO FAIL* after 100,000 miles. That’s Subaru’s own prediction, which is why the extended the warranty initially after 2015. 1-in-8 cars are going to need a transmission. That’s a record of failure not seen since Detroit Big Three cars of the 70’s |
Have you ever driven either of them? Especially the Crosstrek? Wayyyyyy underpowered. As in “it needs at least 100 more HP”, underpowered. So slow it’s almost dangerous. |
