East Silver Spring Elementary

Does anyone have any thoughts on East Silver Spring Elementary school?

I'm not at ESS, but have met a number of parents there who are really happy with it. It's Title 1, so it gets lots of extra federal funding, which gives the school the ability to do lots of small groupings, and it has small class sizes. You can try contacting folks on the school's listserv:

OP, Thanks so much for the information. Truly appreciate it.

I don't have a kid at ESS either, but I have heard mixed things about it. The recommendation to talk to parents on the listserve is a very good one.

In case you haven't seen them, here's a few reviews on greatschools.net:

And links to the MoCo resources:

The "at a glance" PDF and surveys can be interesting.

OP, thanks everyone for their help. The list serve and the links were very helpul. Does anyone know if a lot of the kids from ESS wind up going to the Takoma Park Elementary Magnet program for 1st grade?

Re: Takoma Park Elementary Magnet: I'm the original PP. It's hard to imagine that a lot of kids from any one particular school (other than TPES itself) get into the TP Elem. Magnet. I'm applying now for my kindergartner and there are only about 25-30 spots on average per year for out-of-boundary children. When I went to this year's info session, it was packed. So, there are way more applications than there are spots. I'm at a nearby elem. school, and only 2 kids from my older son's class got into TPES magnet (that was 2 years ago).

Yes, there are far more applications than spots in the TPES magnet. Lots of TPES kids don't get in either!
