Burping constantly!

Anonymous
I know that it's a relatively painless pregnancy problem, but I have been burping *constantly* since the beginning of this pregnancy. I'm now 22 weeks along and there's been no let up. I'm not having any heartburn and the morning sickness ended several weeks ago, but the constant burping (usually 3 or 4 small ones in a row every 20 minutes or so throughout the entire day) is driving me crazy! Does anyone have any suggestions or safe OTC med recommendations for this little issue? Thanks!

I am 27 weeks and having the same problem. I burp so often that it hurts. I wish I had some advice, but all I've got is sympathy.

I am sorry to say it might just continue throughout your pregnancy - consider yourself lucky that you don't have the heartburn, too. I had heartburn and burping and an awful metallic taste in my mouth that lasted the entire pregnancy! I still burp now - it has not gone away and my DS is 2! It probably doesn't help that I drink coffee in the morning. I think burping is a common pregnancy annoyance, sorry to say! When I was pregnant I took prescription heartburn medicine (can't remember name) but did not really work. Try staying away from things like coffee, soda ,etc. Eat small meals, drink small sips of fluids throughout day, etc. Good Luck! I feel for you!

I also have been burping since the beginning of this pregnancy, and I am 31 weeks now. I am still embarrassed by it, but my husband finds it quite funny. Like you, it doesn't really hurt, it's just annoying and well, not un-ladylike, but just not what you want to be doing in public. My doctors have said it's quite common and in the scheme of pregnancy side effects/issues, I am considering it pretty bearable. Good luck.

Same here - 31 weeks along and burping like mad. And I'm on the radio, so thousands get to listen to my little burps, whether they know it or not.

Small meals and cutting out carbonated drinks seem to help, but not much.

Yep, I not only burped, but had the gas come out in the other direction too - gave DH a run for the money when it came to the Tootin' Award

One trick I did learn, especially if you are in public, is to keep your mouth closed as you burp and release it through your nose. Sorta hard to explain trying to write it in a post, but you sorta "breathe" out the burp through your nose as you exhale.

...it's a hormonal pregnancy thing. Sorry, not much help, I just ended up living with it.

The metallic taste is from the iron in prenatal vitamins--take before bed and it should help

Yeah, FWIW I've had that with both of my pregnancies. Not fun, not attractive ... but it will subside. (Then you just have to deal with other things! It's always someething!)

OP here. Thanks everyone -- it's reassuring that I'm not the only one! I already stay away from coffee and soda, but I'll try closing my mouth when I feel a burp coming (if for no other reason than to avoid my husband's teasing). Thanks again!
