Does anyone know of any social skills groups for a 3 year old? |
I saw a flyer at my son's school for a social skills group. I'll check it out tomorrow after I drop him off and post the info here. His school is in the Potomac/Rockville area. |
The structured/organized programs I've seen are for older kids -- for example, JSSA sponsors one (JSSA is the Jewish Social Services Agency in Rockville). I think perhaps carefully selected play dates guided/facilitated by the parents might be appropriate at this age. |
The youngest I've seen is for age four. Agree with pp, working on getting playdates would probably be the best option. At age 3 we had concerns with our child but we are much less concerned now, a year later.

Hi,have you try before to contact PEATC (Parent Educational Advocacy Training Center) at (703)923-0010? They know all about special needs kids. |
13:01 poster here. So sorry I forgot to check out the flyer today! I'll do it Thursday when we're back there. |
I'm pretty sure that Valerie Slattery, who works out of The Language Experience in Chevy Chase (although she's not on staff) had a social skills group for 3-year olds that has ended and is looking to set up new groups. Sorry, I don't have the number handy. |

The Jenny Waelder Hall Center for Children in NW DC has social skills groups for ages 3-6. Their web site is www.jwhcenter.org. |
Someone mentioned Jenny Waelder Hall as having social skills support groups. Jenny Waelder Hall is a half-day preschool that provides support for social and emotional skill development. My daughter (whose social cluelessness and emotional dysregulation caused behavioral difficulties) went there and benefited tremendously. |
Anyone attend any after school programs for K-2? |
The Kids Communication Center in Tenley had them when my son was that age. Also Stepping Stones in Bethesda might. There are definitely more options when your child is a bit older, but I do think you are wise to look now. |
The Ivymount Outreach Spotlight program helps 3 and 4 yr olds through social skills groups. |
Parenting Playgroups says theirs start at 3
