I haven’t seen anyone say they are ok with the leak or that it will help in the midterms. How would it help? The final decision was going to come out before the midterms anyway. But the leak softens the blow by dragging it out and making the story about the leak instead of the opinion.

No, that's what some may be hoping but that's not what the leak will do.

This is huge. There are a lot of Republicans who were not aware this was coming. They are shocked. Just like independents and Democrats are.

Exactly zero Democrats are shocked. We’ve been telling you for years what the GOP was up to.
I'm an Independent and I'm shocked. DH is a Democrat and he is shocked, but I'll be sure to tell him that he's doing it wrong.

Do that. Then check in with your Democratic friends. Seriously, if you aren’t in a right wing news silo, none of this should come as a surprise. I think there’s a level denial among people who are evincing “shock.”

lol

Why is this thread 60 pages long if no one is shocked?

Anger.

What? Are you and your DH this uninformed? The Post has been publishing on this since the seats were stollen.

This. Lots of people are angry, and we are even more angry that millions of voices don't carry as much weight as one conservative supreme court vote.

I blame, Mitch McConell, the federalist society ( and whoever funds it), and my idiot Trump-loving relatives.
But do you I guess.

Now that we’ve established that many people are, for some reason, shocked at this turn of events that Republicans admitted they wanted to have happen and Democrats warned was happening, let’s assume that you are also horrified.

What are you planning to do to address this? How are you going to fix this? Not to heap too much opprobrium on you, but you’ve clearly miscalculated more than a few things and it’s possible that many of you have voted for Republicans in the past (or third party, under the misguided belief that the Democrats are the same as the GOP).

How are you making amends?

I am shocked anyone would not know this was coming. Republicans have been talking about this for years. When the Texas law was not stopped everyone said roe is done.

The Texas law is a mistake. It doesn't have anything to do with Roe, it's just a mistake.

Sorry that my being shocked is so offensive to you. You sound like the poster chiding others for being shocked about the 9000 mass grave. Those aren't found every day. Roe isn't overturned every day either.

Please stop padding yourself on the back and making yourself a victim. No one is offended by your willful ignorance. Anyone who read a newspaper, watch cable TV news, etc knew roe was done. The court watchers have been saying for months. The republicans and Trump ran on it. Trump appointed judges to over turn Roe. He said it over and over again. The judges I appoint will over turn roe. He appointed three Supreme Court judges. A bunch of states started passing laws knowing roe would be over tuned.

Now we are to believe someone like you will suddenly become motivated an active in politics? Lol no. I do not believe it nor do the republicans. Next up is birth control…you know so you are not shocked when it happens.

No dont you dare put this on the shoulders of one woman. F you. There are a 1000 misjudgments and miscalculations and lies between her and this decision.

RBG couldnt retire under Obama because there wasnt even a vote for Garland. Mitch was never gonna let her be replaced by a dem president. Couldnt retire under Trump who got 3 justices in who are all partisan hacks after influencing one justice to retire. Two of them shouldnt have been considered at all.

No. You will not put this at HER feet.

Welcome to the news silo. Even today fox is barely covering this story. And all of their coverage is only about where did the leak originate.

Republicans have said it, yes. But the SCOTUS judges all said Roe was settled and established to Congress during confirmation. It seems to me then that they lied and they’re all political first, law second.

Trump specifically said he was going to nominate justices who would overturn Roe. He said that over and over again. Then the GOP senators, almost all of whom are pro-life zealots, voted to confirm those nominees in lock step. Did you really think those nominees were telling the truth when every single person involved in the appointment process was promising they would get Roe overturned?

And this is depraved. So many women are going to end up bleeding out, leaving their children without a mother. So many families are going to have extra children they can’t afford. So many drug users will end up abusing the children they didn’t want. So many more addicts will be made. So many marriages will fail under the strain of children who need 100% medical care. There is no life in this decision. There is hatred and control and punishment.

Stop calling them “pro life.” There isn’t an ounce of compassion in them. They are forced birth, or if you want to be kind to them, anti choice.

The court prepares the draft before issuing a ruling in order to get comments from the Justices signing onto the opinion.
