Why WES unique?

Anonymous
WES is a relatively new school, but we were surprised by its quality. many in this forum talked about sidwell, maret, norwood and etc. any comments on WES? especially from current and past WES family.

Bump.

We are debating between WES and Beauvoir. Thoughts?

My son is currently at WES, and we love it. While this school was not my first choice for him when we applied for kindergarten, it turned out to be the right choice. He's very happy. It's a great school with a lot of great people (students, staff, and parents).

To PP: would you specify more on details on the school. how can you tell it is a good fit for your DC? you mentioned it was not your first choice, but did you make sure it was a good fit first before you accept the offer, or you learnt it after enrollment?

thanks,

Second hand, but good friends are there and love it. We plan to apply next year. We like the size, the traditional approach, strong academics, and really value based school. They love the community and the parents and are so happy there. They also were accepted at Beauvoir, but decided on WES for several reasons including the co ed aspect (if you plan on NCS/St. Albans down the road), community feel, and international aspects of the program. Good luck to you.

International aspects?

To PP re international aspects -- the kids go abroad for a couple of weeks to Italy, Spain, France during the spring semesters of 6th, 7th, and 8th grades. Included in tuition.

Not bad. Beat that STA/NCS!

I'm new to the board, so excuse my ignorance. What is WES?

Washington Episcopal School. A school that was created ? years ago when a group of parents, teachers, staff split from St. Patrick's.

Traditional (uniforms, curriculum), grades PK to 8th with excellent high school placement, warm community (high-achieving but not vicious parents), big but definitely not beautiful facility (more GDS than Beauvoir in appearance). More international than St. Pat's (which doesn't have early language courses or the trips abroad).

I think that there's plenty about it on this forum. Just use the search engine.

I was looking at a bio of WES's Head of School, Stuart Work. He was the long-time head of the NCS middle school. Wonder why he left after something like 20 years there?

There seems to be a lot of shuffling around of the top tier administrators of the top tier schools -- and a lot of connectedness between the schools at that level. Is Kathy Herman (Admissions Director for WES) related to Paul Herman (Head of St. Albans Lower School)?

Head of Beauvoir + Head of GDS = One Household

I also wondered whether the admissions director at Maret and the head of Bullis are related.

It takes half a second, do a little research. They are not related.
