ISO Spanish tutor

We're in MCPS and need a tutor for Spanish 3. Student does well with the language on paper (homework, tests) but has a much harder time with understanding spoken Spanish and with conversing. Zoom classes have made this even more difficult. We are looking for a tutor who will help with one-on-one conversation and comprehension, as well as confirming knowledge of basic grammar and vocabulary. Would appreciate suggestions.

For building conversational fluency, I've had good luck with bilingual local college students from UMD and Georgetown. It's important for aural learning that your student experiences a multiplicity of voices. Don't stop watching the news or telenovas either.
Many people like Wyzant but I haven't had good luck with them.

In addition to a tutor, have them watch tv in spanish. I am not picky about if the show was originally filmed in spanish because I have found that being interested in the show is the biggest factor in getting my kids to watch.

One episode every single day, same show, same characters, same actor's voices. I prefer for it to be a show that they haven't watched before in English.

Netflix has a ton of content that is available in spanish.
On hulu search for "en espanol" to find their content.

^^ for someone better at reading/writing in spanish than listening, do the captions in Spanish, at least at first.

To find a college student tutor, email the admin assistant for the Spanish/world language departments at local colleges. They usually have a list of Spanish majors who do tutoring; maybe even some grad students would be interested.

Concordia Language Villages is doing online immersion-based classes, I believe. My kids did their online Spanish camps this Summer and really enjoyed them.

I know a Spanish teacher (HS - Bethesda) who is a tutor. If your child is at Walter Johnson HS she can't be his tutor, although she may refer you to teachers from other HS...

If you are interested, create a "fake" e-mail and I ask her to contact you.
