Canvas/MyMcps Help

Anonymous
Please indulge my question is MyMCPS = Canvas? I'm trying to log in to Canvas with MyMCPS info but no luck.

I did "forgot password" and they email me: The password for this login should have been given to you by the system administrators at Montgomery County Public Schools.

I get emails from MyMcps with links "click to view" and when I click it takes me to classroom.mcpsmd.org. There is no parent option so I click on Guest/Other. That takes me to the Canvas log in page.

Have you activated your ParentVUE (Synergy account)?

Thank you. Yes I have. This happens when I follow links in the emails from Canvas.

You need to have logged in via ParentVue on the device without signing out. Or signin to Canvas with the student’s login.

From what I understand, you can’t log directly into Canvas as a parent this year. Log into ParentVue, go to Parent Resources, then click on MyMCPS Classroom. Canvas will open, and you’ll already be logged in.

I also don’t think this works on the ParentVue app without some sort of password fiddle, so be sure to log in from a browser.

You can’t follow the links in the enails. Login to parentvue (aka synergy) and go to parent resources and then click on myMcps. Both accounts need to be under the same email or it won’t work. You’ll also need a google login to be able to see the work submitted in google classroom.

Thank you for taking the time to answer my question. I do you synergy/ParentVUE but I was following the links which apparently I should not be.

I log onto myMCPS with my DS' account. Then I can see whatever the notification is about (Blah blah has been graded, etc.) I might be missing parent-only things, but this has been fine for me so far. I'm able to make sure he's following along and completing assignments.

Thanks for posting OP - I was wondering the same thing.

I’m not sure what I did when I set my account up but I get both parent and child notifications emailed on canvas. If anybody knows of a training video that clearly explains the difference on both or logging in please link it. The ones I have seen so far are not very clear.

Yes, MCPS "branded" their use of Canvas and named it "myMCPS Classroom. It's confusing when people refer to it by both names. Most people say "myMCPS classroom" and so I try to only say that. When you go for support, you will see both names.

OP here. I also forgot to identify myself In a couple above, the Way the links seem to work aren’t even consistent. I just received a canvas email and it said to view a grade click, I did and it took me right to the grade. But other links don’t work. IT needs to figure out a way to make the links work in a consistent fashion.

My fourth grader has only received a few emails in her dashboard inbox.. Most emails are showing up in student view. Is this normal? Should all emails for students be forwarding to the inbox in canvas dashboard? After all, that is where they’re working from for all of their courses?

My 6th grader was having a similar issue. We went in to Canvas last night and changed the settings. Hoping it works better for her now.

I thought it was just the way it was supposed to work and I didn’t understand why some emails would be pushed through to canvas and some would be in student view.
