| their home? Like standing in front of the door and refusing to let you leave. |
| If I didn’t care about our relationship after, call 911. It’s technically false imprisonment. |
| I would go out the another door. |
|
Depends on why.
|
What if there’s only one door, or the other parent blocked the other door? |
What do you mean? |
first I would try to convince them to move. Second I would try to push them to the side. Then I would call 911. |
| is this hypothetical or?? |
|
Sit down, calmly say I'll be getting up to leave in 10 minutes, and note that if they block me, I will call 911. And if I call 911, I am both going to leave and not come back.
Would they like to talk during those 10 minutes about what is going on and why I should come back, despite this? Sure. 10 minutes. |
| Climb out a window |
| I would have to be suicidal and/or homicidal for my parents to do this, so it would probably be for the best. |
| OP, are you okay? |
Not pp, but reasons that someone may block the door to prevent a family member from leaving could range from “You’re not leaving until you try my cake” To “You’re not driving in this condition” or “You’re not driving in this snow”, to more sinister and abusive such as “You’re not leaving until you apologize / we finish this argument” - all very different reasons, mood and would involve different reaction. |
| How old is this adult? Many parents feel their 18-23 year old adult children aren’t adults because they pay for college. |
|
Personally, I have a crazy family and they have physically blocked me from leaving before and nothing good came out it. Usually when someone is acting that crazy they have something nefarious in store and/or logical thought has left the building.
So yes I would probably find some kind of window, open that and climb out. I'm not sticking around to find out whatever BS they have in store. |
