Easy hikes or walks near Sperryville, VA

Anonymous
We are headed to Sperryville, VA and would like to do a bit of hiking. The members of our family are not big hikers, so we are looking "easy" hikes or walks. Any suggestions?

I think you do as much or as little of Old Rag as you'd like and it will be perfect.

OP here - I didn’t realize that. I thought Old Rag was really intense all the way through. That’s not the case?

Are you going up into the park? There are several short easy trails near the Thornton gap entrance. Limberlost is one that I know is accessible, so it’s wide and flat all the way and short.

Sorry to clarify, I mean wheelchair accessible. Idk the Covid status.

Go into Shenandoah and do Stony Man https://www.nps.gov/thingstodo/stony-man.htm

I wouldn’t recommend doing part of Old Rag and turning around. The part you cover would be kind of boring.

This is a great suggestion. My initial thought was - no way, that one is really hard. BUT the first mile or so is pretty flat and along the water and lovely. Also, easy to get to from Sperryville.

Old Rag is not an easy hike and is only really worth it once you get to a certain elevation.
