Kitchen Range -buy with griddle or extra burner?

Anonymous
We went into the kitchen remodel process looking at 30" ranges but have now decided to bite the bullet and buy a 36".

Any favorite brands of 36"? How about version - the griddle top seems nice but we're not sure of the utility. Any experience with the various tops would be helpful!

I wouldn’t get a built-in griddle to take up 2 out of 6 burners. You can get a griddle to semi permanently live on top, but that is removable when you need the extra burners.

I haven't used the griddle or 5th burner in 4 years. Looks cool though.

Extra burner, all the way. I’ve never heard anyone go that route and three months later say “wish I’d got the griddle, instead.”

Extra burners. I almost got a griddle with our 36” blue star (I used to be a professional cook) but decided the burners are more useful for home cooking. I did buy a large cast iron piece to bridge two burners but I rarely use it.

I love the blue star. It has no fancy electronics, and I can fit a full sheet pan in the oven, unlike most brands.

I have that griddle. I never use it. Rather have 8 burners.

Burners for sure! I have the 48 so have six burners and the griddle. Never use it. It’s harder to clean than just using a pan.

We had an old electric Jenn-Air stove for a while that had a griddle insert you could swap for the burners on one side. We used it a lot and kept it installed most of the time. It was wider than most griddles I’ve seen in newer stoves. When that range bit the dust we replaced it with an electric glass top range where there is a bridge between two burners that you can set a griddle on and I bought a visionary griddle. (still haven’t done our big remodel with the gas line moved)

We bought a house that has a Wolf with the griddle and I use it occasionally (mostly for pancakes), but I'd rather have two more burners. I have a non-stick Calphalon griddle that fits over two burners and it heats evenly and is easy to clean.

Get six burners and buy one of these:

I have a griddle and use it at least three times a week

Extra burner. I used the griddle in the beginning but it was a bear to clean.

Built in griddle is harder to clean but we use it daily. I liked having an iron griddle that I could lift off and clean.

For what?

We use our griddle all the time. It probably depends if you have kids— we do grilled ham and cheese sandwiches, quesadillas, French toast, pancakes, this broccoli cheese thing https://www.bonappetit.com/story/cheesy-broccoli-skillet, naan, and probably other things I’m forgetting.

I’ve never wished for more burners.

I have a 48” with griddle and grill - never use either. I watched the cleaning videos and never touched either after that. It’s SO much easier to just use my electric griddle then toss it in the dishwasher or go outside to grill

Wishing i had at least 2 extra burners back!
