I knew it was expensive, but did a Redfin search and did not realize how many were listed for multiple-millions of dollars (over $15m+)..

Most family money right? Some Hedge fund owners? Doesn’t seem like something bay area multi-millionaires spend their money on. I think I saw the one owned by Jeffrey Epstein. I think some celebrities can afford these, but many could not.

A family friend is a US property manager for a middle eastern royal. The royal has places in NYC as well as a mansion in LA. The neighbors include several other foreign tycoons and royals.

Mega foreign wealth, bigshot finance/law/media/fashion/tech types, old money (I know a few people that grew up in NY who aren't crazy rich, but the fancy Park Ave apartment has been in the family for generations), celebrities, athletes etc.

Lots of different ways that people can make a lot of money.

I think the NY bubble will pop slightly over the next few years. However will still remain pricey, certainly by DMV standards.

We know a hedge fund billionaire who bought a rather famous penthouse for an 8 figure price.
I don’t think there are many lawyers buying at that price point—i think they are more in the 6 figure nieghborhood, or maybe low seven figures.
I guess there are probably also some movie or rock stars—Gayneth Paltrow has one, I think. I would think JLo and ARod have one.
