Doesn't seem fair.

Therein lies the problem. There is no one from 20171 representing our families on the BRAC. Instead they gave organizations that pretend to represent FCPS families extra seats, when we all know that they are JUST representing Great Falls and Oakton.

Yes, the person who said they don't want their kids taken out of Chantilly is missing the point. I agree the families in the area who attend Chantilly would be happy to stay there--it is close--but they would be happy to have a school that is even closer.

No one in the KAA area that I can find is on BRAC.

I googled the names. I may not be 100% correct on locations as people may move, etc. and I could not find addresses for all of them.

Westfield reps live well on the south side of 50--no where near KAA.
Chantilly reps live on the south end of Chantilly boundary,
Oakton reps do not live in this area either. Appear to live near Oakton High School..
South Lakes reps appear to live in Reston which is not in Carson boundary--at least I don't think any live in Carson boundary.

There may be reps on BRAC from organizations who do live in this area, but I do not know of any.

So, are the decisions about KAA leaving out the opinions and wishes of those who most need and want it?

So, unless

Very few students from Carson go to SLHS. It is the Fox Mill kids, which is around 80 kids, and some kids from Floris. It might be 160 kids from Carson that go to SLHS and I think that is pretty high.

The families we know at Chantilly want to stay at Chantilly but screwing over the entire area and trying to push a magnate school and not making KAA a neighborhood school is wrong. I would hope that there is serious push back on this idea. If they move the four schools whose base school is Carson, Fox Mill, Floris, McNair, and Coates you would have a good mix for KAA.

You are missing Crossfield. Crossfield is the only school whose base is Carson but whose HS is Oakton. Fox Mill Kids should move to Hughes and stay at South Lakes.

No one who could go to Carson and Oakton should go to Hughes and South Lakes. Honestly, fight for your kids. -Hughes MS teacher

There's no plan to switch anyone from Carson/Oakton to Hughes/South Lakes. The kids who go to Fox Mill ES go to Carson and South Lakes. It would make more sense for them to go to Hughes so they can start high school with kids they already know. I know they don't want to, but they're going to end up with those kids anyway.

There is talk of crossfield being shifted to Hughes/South Lakes. Check out recent board docs.

Link please.

I think you're confused. ONE neighborhood at Crossfield goes to and wants to stay at South Lakes.

I thought some wanted to move to another elementary school that feeds to South Lakes.

This neighborhood was a VERY big issue during the South Lakes Boundary study. Some wanted to stay at Oakton and others wanted to go to South Lakes. It divided the neighbors. I knew two of them who were on opposites sides and gave opposite requests at the SB meeting.

Sounds like it is still that way.

It is a very small neighborhood and it was requested at the time that generous pupil placement be allowed back to Oakton. That was shut down by the School Board.
Honestly, I don't live in that neighborhood or in a Crossfield neighborhood, but it was really sad to see the neighbors that divided. I thought generous pupil placement was a good option. I still think it is. It is just a handful of kids who do not go to Oakton. Let them choose.

I don't know why you keep rehashing ancient history. Everyone I know in Fox Mill Woods wants to stay zoned to Hughes/South Lakes. SOME of them would prefer their kids go to Hunters Woods so that they can stay with their elementary school classmates when they move up to middle school. NONE of them want their kids to go to Carson/Oakton.

This is from the people who actually live in the KAA area.
