They didn't move it to California, it was always supposed to be shot in LA and then a week away from building the sets there was some sort of issue (probably COVID related) that prevented them from moving forward in LA. The switch to fiming in Australia was very last minute.

I mean the story. In the book it takes place in Australia. Just like Big Little Lies. Are Americans really so insular and narcissistic that we'll only watch a show set in the US?

What a weird conclusion to come to. Having read the book I was very disappointed the show wasn't set in Australia.

I thought the book was okay until it got very ridiculous at the end. I watched one episode of the show and quit.

It was nice to see Asher Keddie though. I sure do miss Offspring.

what's with Carmel's white eye from yesterday's episode?

I couldn't tell if that was real or Masha hallucinating. I am pretty sure her shooter had a white eye (or that is what the scene meant))

Yes the shooter had a white eye, giving the impression that the shooter is Carmel (wearing a fake beard)

No, she’s hallucinating.

The shooter is Carmel, or it's Masha's hallucination like Carmel hallucinated and thought Masha was the other wife of the ex? I think it's Masha's hallucination since she's high now.

Anonymous wrote:This show is awful! I stuck it out for the first 4 episodes (unfortunate waste of time), but have no interest in watching the rest. Kidman is usually great, but she is terrible in this, her Russian accent comes and goes. The premise of this show is absurd, but its biggest sin is that it is just boring. I can a handle a ridiculous plot if it is at least entertaining. This is not. Not even close to being as good as White Lotus.

I'm really enjoying it, other than Kidman's mannered, overwrought performance. Normally I don't like Bobby Carnevale's acting work at all, but he's really excellent here, as is Melissa McCarthy. I got a kick out of the fact that MM's real-life husband played her scamming ex.

I caught it on late-night tv a year or two ago. For what it is, it’s kind of great!

Without getting into any spoilers, how are the boom readers feeling about this show? I don’t remember many of the details except the set-up and the fact that the plot went insane in the last 1/3… Clearly they’ve set this up as a 2-season arc and are saving basically ALL the plot for next time? In general I enjoy watching more fully realized characters approach plot challenges, but I question putting all the development in season 1 and all the plot in season 2. By the time season 2 rolls around, we won’t remember anything about these people.

I really love this cast and the setting. Emmy noms will follow.
Too bad David E Kelly was passed over for a BLL Emmy (which he was definitely worthy) because he will not get one here.

I had no idea he was her husband! Too funny.

I think her teen daughter played young Frances as well.

I’m hooked. This last episode was the most interesting, IMO. Nicole Kidman’s accent and acting doesn’t bother me in the least. Everyone else in the cast (except maybe the young couple) are terrific.

I love the cast. If you’ve read the book you’d see how Masha and Jessica are perfectly cast.
