So my DH is a good cop on a shift full of good cops. They have tons of life-saving awards between them and no internal affairs investigations. They support each other and hold each other accountable. In short, they are exactly what you want police to be. So here’s the question: they receive the same anti-police hostility as every other police officer. What else can they possibly do to please the anti-police crowd? PP says they “earned” this problem. What more can they do to earn your respect? Sincerely... I would like to know. It pains ME to see how beat up he feels, and yet he walks out the door to do more good work in spite of the hate he receives.

No one thinks all police are "bad".

The GOP is pushing that and it's not true.

What we do know is DT defunded the police all over the county. PERIOD> FACT. He owes those departments millions of dollars what do Trump supporters think the police should do with those short falls?

They want to defund the police..... many jurisdictions are not doing this. Some are. But the actions they have taken have had the result they wanted.

They demonized the police. Called them racists. Attacked them relentless over the summer of 2020 - and attacks continue today. Police are being targeted and assassinated.

Now, police offices across the nation cannot get new recruits. There are record number of retirements and resignations from police departments. Police officers are afraid to do their job for fear they will be accused of a crime.

This was their goal. And, crime is skyrocketing. No surprises there.

Crime is skyrocketing in all major jurisdictions (R and D run). Studies suggest it happens when people face uncertain economic futures. No one bought into defunding police except republicans who love to use it as a talking point. Given how much cities pay out in police brutality cases, retraining is necessary. No one is going to risk their lives for $36K a year. Would you? You can make more doing much less dangerous work. Many of the officers who retired needed to. It's was for the best.

He can make it clear publicly that black lives matter to him, that he is committed to fair and just policing, that he agrees Derek Chauvin (as one example) was wrong to kneel on George Floyd's neck for 9 minutes, etc. Don's assume people just know you are one of the good guys. Say it. Show it. Condemn unwarranted police violence when it happens.

Awards awarded by policing institutions might carry less weight than making it clear that you condemn the treatment of Sandra Bland, or Philando Castile, etc. etc. The short hand to show that you agree with that is "Black Lives Matter".

Not PP, but Donald Trump held rallies all over the country and his campaign hasn’t paid the cities and towns for the extra police services those rallies required. Going on five years now in some cases. https://thehill.com/homenews/campaign/448323-10-cities-say-trump-owes-them-money-from-rally-security

Any facts to back your claims or just want to rant?

Yep.

There are plenty more....

And, as for the pp asking about the benefit to liberals for rising crime rates.....
Unintended consequences. Too many liberals seem to assume that the cops are the bad guys and that if we could only reduce or eliminate police, we would live in this utopia where everyone is kind to everyone else. That is simply fairy tale thinking.

The myth of the “just a few bad apples” cop has been forever busted in the cell phone camera era. There are far too many bad apples and an order of magnitude more that are complicit. They deserve exactly the respect that they are being given.

And it’s hilarious, because the cop apologists who use the “just a few bad apples” line don’t even understand it. It’s that it only takes a few “bad apples” to SPOIL THE WHOLE BUNCH.

So, you are saying all cops are bad?

Um...have you been to Atlanta lately? Tried shopping in what used to be one of their nicest malls? The crime surge in big cities and the reduced number of officers are not just media hype.

There is no crime surge. Crime is just part and parcel of living in a modern multicultural society.

The crime surge myth is simply hysteria created by the establishment media.

Agree.

If people didn’t report nuisance crimes, overall crime stats would be far lower. The numbers are misrepresented.

Are murders a nuisance?

Most murders occur in very insular communities. They don’t affect you. So why is it so important for you to obsess about things that will never affect you? Do you get some kind of thrill knowing how many young men of color are killing each other? Is that the sort of thing you and your trumpet buddies like to keep tabs on when you meet for you Friday night cross burnings?

DP. Wow. So we see here that you clearly don’t give a $hit about violence in black communities. Obviously, not *all* black lives matter. Thanks for being honest about that.

Crime statistics showing an increase will interfere with support for defunding the police.

A better approach is to not collect crime data.

+100

Crime data by it’s very nature is racist, and it provides talking points for racists.

You missed the point (and the sarcasm) by a mile.

DP. WTF?? 1). There most certainly are people who hate all police. Ever heard of ACAB? Educate yourself. 2). Please provide links to back up your BS claim that Trump defunded police. We’ll wait.

It is true there are a lot of negative perceptions of LE due to cherry picked videos going around on social media and fake cable news.

But your husband also has a warped perception of reality that is impacting how he feels. The anti-police crowd are actually a very small group of people. I'm sure your husband and his coworkers are watching Fox news and taking the "defund the police" bait. If he gets out of the trenches, he will be a better man.

The best way to solve bad cops is to have them hold malpractice insurance like doctors and get rid of their immunity. Bad cops won’t be around for long!

My husband doesn’t watch Fox News. Ever. I can’t imagine many of his coworkers do, either. As for the anti-police crowd, it may be small but it is loud. It comes for him while he’s at work, where he is regularly scorned by local politicians. He is already a better person than I can ever be, so I’m not sure what more can be asked of him.

This is a terrible idea. Cops will become the get rich quick scheme.

Nobody is risking their life for 36k a year. You can more than that doing hustling Instacart and Uber.
