Do you have any problem with the extreme views on the left of McElveen and others? I think not. Well, I do--but I am not calling on him to resign. He was elected--and so was Schultz. I detest Trump's comments. However, Clinton's actions are worse. Do you condone corruption? Do you condone lying? Do you condone stealing? Do you condone the destruction of government property? Do you condone hypocrisy? |
| And of the two, Herrity is a much bigger problem for Fairfax than Shultz is. He and his father have caused insurmountable problems for Fairfax County. |

The current fcps and last fcps school boards have been dominated by one monolithic viewpoint and have been terrible stewards of the taxpayers' money (their primary purpose).
I am happy for just about anyone who expands the perspective of the current school board and breaks apart one political party's monopoly. |

| I'm fine with a conservative on the school board. Someone whose twitter feed sometimes demonstrates the maturity of a middle schooler, not so much.... |
| Hough and Wilson are both conservative Republicans on the School Board, but they behave like adults and are respected by other Board members. Schultz is a rude bully. But since we live in times where rude bullies get attention (think Donald Trump and his minions), Schultz gets plaudits from the crazies for "telling it like it is." Sad. |
|
Schultz is much more vocal--and I agree, she is too vocal. However, without her, I doubt seriously that Hough or Wilson would have won.
She is brought items to the attention of the public that the others tried to hide. An example is the transgender bathroom issue. It was being handled case by case with little furor--but McElveen had to go out on a limb before the community was aware. That is a problem. |
| I checked - Springfield District was 52% Obama, 48% Romney in 2012. I just don't think it is winnable for a Dem running in an off year as all local offices are. |
It's pathetic that at the end of the day Schultz's biggest supporters always return to the issue of transgendered bathrooms. Honestly, it's like the only thing that really matters to them and it is close to a non-issue for most students and families. If she and her supporters think she can ride that wave to re-election or another position in Fairfax County, I think they are in for a rude awakening. |
Schultz's politics are far to the right of Mitt Romney. |
What kind of joke is this? Jack was Chairman for 10 years and left office in 1988. Name one action that he took in that period that was "insurmountable." And if you think Pat has one of 10 votes on the Board - 8 of which are held by Dems. I think we can say clearly whose fault the direction of the county is. |
All the development during that time in Fairfax was in direct contrast to what was being planned over in Arlington. I don't remember all that he's did while on the board, but he's credited with much of Tyson's development which turned out to be a disaster. The new development isn't any better nor is any other part of Fairfax County that hasn't been incorporated other than a few large scale developments. Pat is way to the right on local issues too. He governs over a wider area that extends into schools and all other areas of local government, so I think he's more dangerous than a school board member. |
All we can do is wait for Pat to win election to the state senate. Because name recognition is everything in local politics and he has a serious advantage. He isn't going anywhere as a result. Every one of his constituents takes the Herrity Highway to the Herrity building at the government center in order to conduct business with the county... |
Don't quite get what you are saying here about Jack/Pat. Jack was on the board--not the only board member--when Fairfax county decided to go in a different direction than a neighboring county? |
| Most of the SB members are not interested in education. Their only issue is a social agenda. Very sad. Spending money on the wrong things. |
