| Everyone is afraid of the vomit bowl, yet so many people hand wash dishes with used sponges. |
No sponges in my house. They are gross. Brushes only. We have little old plastic wastebaskets around for puking, which is exceedingly rarely needed. Popcorn is our favorite snack and there is no way I will defile a snack receptacle with vomit ever, even if it can be sanitized. In fact, I have lovely vintage bowls for snacks. No vomit. |
You need more bowls in your life. |
You do realize that your dishwasher doesn’t clean itself, right? A lot of sediment is sitting at the bottom. This is not a good practice to “sanitize”. |
| The idea of a plastic liner is just as gross. If it is a decent volume you now have to deal with possible leaks or have it sitting in your trash for days. |
Yall do realize that the utensils you use at restaurants have been licked and slobbered over by thousands of strangers. |
Brushes are worse than sponges. Dishcloths that are thrown in the washing machine every use is the correct answer for DCUM. |
| No! We have a paper grocery bag, like from Trader Joe's, with a plastic trash bag bag over it. We rarely have to replace it because even when people feel sick, they mostly make it to the bathroom in time. It lives at a bottom of a little used closet. |
| We just use the bathroom trash can |
|
Throw up bowl is a plastic trash can. I think the only other use it gets is washing cars.

+1 I don't understand how all you people stay in hotels. It's not like they disinfect the mattress and carpets every time someone stays. |
| I feel like popcorn vomit bowl might go down in DCUM history like red washcloth, lightly fried tuna, closed kitchen, and bobcat hunting. |

We had an old yellow bucket that was used bedside when we were sick as kids.
Implemented something similar with my kids, usually some sort of old bucket. Just not as consistent as when I was a kid. Although it sucked to be sick, it did mean that the old black & white portable TV would get setup in the my bedroom. A rare privilege indeed. |
+1 I don't get this thread. Most bacteria cannot survive boiling water for more than a minute. Just make sure you wash your popcorn bowl or whatever and you are fine. |
| growing up yes! but we use whatever large bowl or pot on hand for our kids. I think the popcorn bowl cliche was that it was large and plastic/lite. |
