We can use the revenue from the gambling taxes to fund programs to support the poor. Problem solved. |
I have zero idea as to what is planned for Tysons...but usually the Casino hotels are huge and a major source of convention business. Vegas really now lives or dies by business visits and conventions. I think Gaylord right now seems to do a healthy convention business...so maybe Tysons is trying to get in on the act. |
Yup. Lots of activities are targeted to those who least can afford it--smoking, alcohol etc. I don't see why casinos are different from other vices. |
Because casinos draw the poor people making the poor choices into a concentrated area. Have you ever seen the slot floor at the MGM in Maryland? |
I make mid six figures, go to MGM to play poker, and have run into many others in my demographic there (including colleagues from work). Unfortunately, I know that many people are judgmental about this form of entertainment, so I don't talk about it. People find it more acceptable to drop hundreds (if not thousands) on things like Taylor Swift concerts, Commanders tix, the latest "tasting" menu, and so forth. I honestly don't care how people spend their money if they can afford it, but we shouldn't pretend that gambling is the only form of entertainment where poor people spend above their means. |
Casinos make 65 to 80% of their revenue from slot machines. That's not high stakes poker. |
I was asking about Purcellville, especifically. |
Have you ever been to a bar or a nightclub? Same thing. |
I have seen very few slot machines in bars and nightclubs around here. |
| I'm glad Spanberger isn't a progressive. As a moderate she's our only hope in ensuring that Virginia does not degrade into a version of Maryland. She's going to be dealing with a lot of ideological nonsense coming from the next House of Delegates. |
No, it’s fun. Entertainment. |
Virginia Beach is degraded by the amount of people smoking pot everywhere. We can’t even enjoy a walk and the clean ocean hreeze. We need Spanberger to intervene and make VA Beach clean again. Yes we can. |
Lucas is pushing hard for legalization since she owns a couple head shops in Newport News. You can expect legalization next year in a compromise deal to build a casino in Tysons. |
Does it mean smoking pot will be legalized in VA Beach making those people happy while we’ll lost our right to breathe clean air? |
