I would like to have strong words with whoever schedules kids sports early on weekends.

It doesn't matter what the schedule is, someone will gripe.

5 am wouldn't happen here, though. I wouldn't sign my kids up

Guess your kids aren't swimmers or skaters. Yes, there aren't nearly enough fields, but there are far fewer pools and ice rinks. If your kid wants to participate, you get what you get and you don't get upset

I get how a kid gets into swimming because it likely started on a summer swim team and kids love hanging at the pool during the summer…but it’s all on the parent if their kid does hockey or skating.

They don’t just go down to the local lake that freezes over and play pick up with their friends like they do in Canada or MN or other cold weather places.

There are so many sports kids can play around here that they can easily play at a rec level without such crazy schedules.

Me too, same for my kids.

+1 Kids perform best when fresh leaves more time in the afternoon for kids to play.

Sorry you're not a morning person. I like the early games, it gives us time to do other things that day. The mid-day or afternoon games are the worst, you can't do anything else that day.

I don’t love the 8 am soccer games that are a 40 minute drive away and the players need to be there half an hour before starting time. My teens are not naturally early morning people. Breakfast doesn’t appeal to them at that time of the day. They’re still half asleep and don’t play with their usual energy. At that hour, as you get deeper into the season, the field is usually covered in frost and everyone has to bundle up (we live in a northern state).

That being said, the league rotates game times, so it’s not every single week. I’m fine with the occasional early start and having the rest of the day free.

Same. I got to choose a time for orchestra and I picked the earliest time - we can still do birthday parties, family outings (Butler's, etc), get home and have a quiet day. This year soccer is at 1pm and that's pretty much my whole Sunday, plus I miss the early NFL games.

Are you me? I'll take a 7 am game in Fredericksburg all day long over a 2pm in Arlington.
