I would not rely on anything that the WH or congressional Republicans put out as a desk or plan in the works. House is on recess through Oct. 1. Senate can’t even get the tainted CR to 50 votes. I think it’s safe to assume long shut down. I’m preparing for 1-3 with one of our two household incomes.

DHS and DOD are funded. They don’t care about anything else.

I thought DOD is also operating on a CR - has there been a separate appropriations bill passed for that agency?

That was until the end of the fiscal year — Sept. 30th.

Right, someone up the thread said that DHS and DOD are both funded so the GOP won’t care if the rest of the govt shuts down. I was wondering where they got that info because as far as I know, no federal agency is funded and they will all shut down on 10/1 if nothing happens.

DP. This is also my understanding - but I could be wrong.

DOD is deemed essential and needs to work without pay?

Not all of DoD, no. Many civilians will be furloughed. Military will have to work without pay.

Your understanding based on what? No funding bills have been passed. Exempted employees will have to work. The rest will be furloughed.

And isn’t Congress on yet another vacation?

They are off fund raising at home. We elect people who spend a large amount of their time fundraising and promoting corporate interests over that of their constituents.

The military is not funded. There will not be a shutdown. There is no advantage to the Dems for forcing one and they will be blamed because the House passed a clean CR. Schumer will wait until the last minute and fold.

Dems might vote for a clean CR. Will Rs?

There is another special election in the House today - one that is likely to be in the D column. It will be harder for the House to pass something again.

Seems like the GOP would own a shutdown since it controls all the branches of government. Also, the OBBB is starting to be felt throughout the land with rural health services shutting down.

Their voters want them to do something, not keep caving to R’s and letting Trump go wild.

Exactly. Republicans have both the senate and the house. They can pass anything they want without any dem votes. Dems have no control. If Rs don’t pass a CR that’s on them.
