Reporting Someone For Residency Fraud- FCPS

Anonymous
Obviously report them. I reported someone I knew who was using a friend's address to get in state tuition in Virginia and I reported that.

Can't the schools check the registered addresses for cars in the kiss and ride lines? These kids aren't riding the bus or walking. Make it known that there is an enf effort.

How much of this is for sports? I saw the Hayfield comment, that was my thought too.

They are not paying taxes either. They are stealing resources from those who are paying taxes.

Because if they're living in Fairfax Co, they are paying property taxes. It might be through their landlord, but they're paying. Someone living in Maryland or Prince William or Loudoun County is paying zero in Fairfax County property taxes. That's the difference.

Absolutely turn her in and let us know how it goes. She's stealing from the rest of us.

For our school, the kids are doing it for academics, not sports

They want a bigger cheaper house, so they buy a nicer house in the lower high school pyramid and lie about residency to attend our high school.

Our cheaters are not from Maryland though. They are from adjacent FCPS high schools.

They "may" have permission. Coaches sometimes finesse that. Years ago, I had a neighbor who did that. Sports was definitely the reason. She said he had "social" issues and he received the transfer. The school had a better team and he was thinking he'd get a D1 scholarship. He was a good player--but not that good. Did not get that D1 scholarship he expected.

Do you yourself know specifically of fraud? I suspect there might be, but I don't know anyone that I think is abusing it.
Yes!

I do think the Hayfield thing was egregious, but I don't think the problem is as widespread as the poster believes.

It definitely is. Investigations should start in schools in the eastern part of the county that are closer to the PG County Maryland line and Alexandria City. A lot of the cheaters are from MD.

The couple of fam’s that I know are from prince William county

It’s more widespread. There needs to be a check and reconciliation process.

The schools could do lots of things to shake out the freeloaders. They don't.

They don’t. PP and teacher. When I suspected this, I told the registrar and admin who called and was told they use the grandparents for childcare and it gets a pass even though the child is actually sleeping somewhere else and isn’t cared for by those grandparents every day.

It was my understanding some years ago that you could pupil place for child care--but I don't think it applies if you are out of county.

Good luck, OP. I did this years ago - submitted all the info I had on a convicted criminal who decided to send DC to FCPS despite blatant evidence of residency fraud. Absolutely nothing was done after my report and the student ended up graduating from a top HS.

I do know of anyone situation where a FCPS admin assistant was penalized and sued for residency fraud - I know because she told everyone all about it but somehow kept employment with FCPS.

People who commit this type of fraud are sociopaths.

While employed at a big name government firm a colleague bragged to me how her college stipend was being paid for by the company AND her affiliation with a national guard unit. But it was ok because she sent the extra money back home to help her impoverished family members. If there was a loophole, she’d find it.

Last straw was when she got her hand caught in the till so to speak.

Report her. Her kids are probably bullies too.
