Well you did bring the driving situation and I am a neighbor and actually know what is going on there. Only a commented to say that poster is correct and there is a lot more going on. Maybe parents want to turn a blind eye— it doesn’t surprise me

Carpooling is allowed under the agreement as is driving the youngest students by themselves. The restricted hours are also limited. Still many GDS students take Metro, public buses, school buses, or walk. I don’t think GDS parents turn a blind eye. Public school and day care parents block driveways in my neighborhood all the time. I get it.

GDS has become mostly performative in its quest for social justice.

Take a 1000 very wealthy families. Some of them the most wealthy in DC. Multiple summer homes, private jets. Charge them $50k. And then tell these mostly white parents how their Johnny is getting diversity at GDS so they can talk about it at the country club on Martha’s Vineyard or Nantucket over the summer

Not ideological diversity of course. Program every assembly as DEI content. Every single one. Ban all political clubs on campus. Ban student themed events including a rodeo theme which is “racist”. Make all discipline infractions have a “restorative justice” portion to them without explaining that. Have the same amount of staff in DEI office as college counseling office. Drive away some of your best teachers including under represented minority teachers who despise the newly poorly run high school.

Just guilt assuaging 2025 style. GDS is just downstream of the worst crap of the last 5 years.

It really is a sight to behold when you see the afternoon pickup with the fleet of idling SUVs driven by nannies.

Unlike almost every other public, private, or parochial school, GDS requires its students to take public transportation, walk, or, if driving, to carpool. And they do.

Yes but this was not by choice. It was a settlement with the ANC to build the LS building. And then GDS violated the reporting obligations and was sanctioned by the ANC.

This wasn’t some goodness of their hearts thing. The city requires less cars in and out of campus.

Still many nannies driving carpools in large SUVs as of a month ago.

+1 and the illegal parking on Ellicot is infuriating. As is the regular lunch pot smoking from the kids from GDS. and no it’s not the public school kids. Easy to tell the difference. GDS kids stand out and Jackson reed kids have their own spot in the ft Reno area to do it.

Oh sweet, the Jackson Reed and/or ANC parent is now active on this thread. The kids smoking pot and stealing crap from Target, Wawa, and CVS are from JR, but you do you. To the individual infuriated by parking on Ellicot: consider yourself lucky that you don't have to park, drive, walk, or live by the disruptive disaster that is Jackson Reed during arrival and dismissal. You would feel more than infuriated.
