Same. The poster who said screens are here to stay does not understand the power of the people. In a few years, people will look back at all the tech in schools and think, "what were we doing?" A bit like how there used to be smoking places in schools too.

I hate whiteboards for read alouds, they are terrible. I have noticed their use is highly dependent on the teacher. Plenty of elementary teachers still do class read alouds without them and use traditional books. Some teachers, though, are dependent on the technology for everything and I hate it. They would keep the kids on chromebooks 24-7 (with headphones) if they could and it drives me nuts.

I don't know about politically organizing or not, but I recently discovered that MCCPTA has a tech committee and got on their listserv... decreasing overuse of technology in schools seems to be one of the topics there is some interest/action around but I am too new to it to really say anything more than that

Paper isn’t even the issue at my school. It’s that there are 1000 students and two copy machines.

Usually, only one copy machine works. If I want to make copies, I need to get to my school by 7 AM. At 7:20 AM, there is already a line of 5-6 teachers. If I decide to wait until after school, there’s often a line until 4 pm.

Last week, both copiers were broken. One was fixed on Friday.

MCPS parents are never going to agree on social studies and science textbooks. We might have managed it before we cowed to religious conservatives, but it’ll never happen now.
