Predictions Snow Feb 11?

So many kids left behind due to parent pick-ups at school on early release. By contract staff can’t leave until all kids are gone.

Only to feed students lunch that day and send "homework" if applicable

They’ve done it before yes.
I don’t see a closure Tuesday unless the forecast moves earlier.

When was the last time they did an early closing for snow rather than a full closure?

Right before Covid happened we had a couple of early release days, maybe 6-7 years ago

Some of you have short memories. It literally happened last January.

I could see them announcing an early closure in advance, like tomorrow afternoon, to give people more time to plan. They've done that before, too. Early closures called the day of are the most disruptive and they hate doing them if avoidable.

I don't envy them the call on this one. The timing is tough. If they make a call for Tuesday and nothing happens, people will be screaming that they don't have 20/20 hindsight. If they roll the dice and it ends up being a mess in the afternoon, it will be a logistical nightmare.

And that's where you come in with your all star memory

I expect early dismissal Tuesday since the snow is supposed to start at 1 pm.

But some schools don't release early dismissal by 1pm

Snow totals not much in upper county. More in forecast for lower MoCo this time. Doug, are you on this thread - what do you say?

I think/hope he has better things to do than check this thread!

Nah this should be one of his priorities clearly if he lives around there in MoCo somewhere.

They do not like to do early release. Usually it's only if it is not supposed to snow much and then they are surprised by a much larger amount of snow than predicted. And there are always parents who do not show up on time to pick up their kids. If they know there will be enough school to make it difficult in the afternoon on Tuesday, they are much more likely to cancel the whole day.

They will do early release with warning, so not to add another day to the end of the year.

I thought their ultimate priority was safety, not minimizing the number of hours of instruction they have to provide.

Taylor should out out a video for his first early release announcement.

Advance-notice early release is both safe and preserves the instructional day.

Ignore the apps. Models are zeroing in on a 3-6 inch solution for the DC area, with possibly more to the south than north. Most of the precipitation will fall during the night on Tuesday, but you'll see snowflakes, and possibly light accumulation, during the afternoon. There might be a second round on Wednesday night, but type (snow, sleet, freezing rain or rain) is hard to tell right now. If it's snow, it will add to accumulation totals.

Clear now?
