It is not a buyout. You may still have to work from home until Sept. if you take the deal. You're just agreeing to quit in Sept. may still have to work the whole time.

Apparently Elon crafted nearly an identical email for Twitter. Such a dirty, dirty move
.

Not even a thing for the federal workers who never had telework

Why is it dirty? Federal employees didn't work from home before Covid.

It’s not as good as if they officially RIF you. If you wait for the government to lay you off, you will be given more than this.

Unless you are retiring or you really can’t figure out RTO, it doesn’t make much sense

How is a RIF better?

To someone in private industry this is a HUGE handout. Most give a few weeks to a few months. One company I worked with pushed fire dates up to end of month, so as to not let folks get health insurance for another month. I was in meeting where this was decided , big GSEs.

It is not a buyout. You keep working until you resign. It is a horrible deal.

It is a trick.

Yeah, that is indeed very different. Not a deal at all, really.

Elon Muck wrote it. Can’t we deport this vile m@therf@cker already?

Untrue. Many agencies had telework arrangements pre-pandemic.

Get it in writing and have a lawyer check it out. Trump has been screwing his employees forever. Do not trust this man. He lies every time he opens his mouth!

Actually, at my agency many people teleworked two days a week, some three. Now everyone is required to being back in the office five days a week with no routine telework. This is stupid and makes us less competitive with private sector for the e best employees.

I read it and basically you can check out and there will be no penalties.

If you were very close to retirement or if you really couldn’t/didn’t want to return in person and needed the extra 8 months to get your job search together, I could see the utility. But that hinges on you trusting these jack wagons to keep their promises.

Did you expect this administration to have half a brain? I already know 3 people who had announced planned retirement since the New Year. Senior folks. Their plan was to spend down annual leave and separate in mid 2025

They will absolutely take this offer, leave the agency in Feb, get paid until Sept. They get paid out all their annual leave.

This is dumb helicopter money to already well-to-do Feds on CSRS with plenty of appreciated assets.

"If it sounds too good to be true"--they are fools because Trump and Musk will find a way to renege on this.

I am planning to retire in the next year or so. This is appealing to me because it seems like they're paying you for eight months where you don't have to work and then I can retire. It is definitely not a good thing for people who are not ready to retire or who do not have another job lined up.

There is no buyout. You are still working for those 7 months then you resign. You just get to work from home. There is no actual buyout.

This is just an agreement to resign in exchange for continuing to WFH. I'm a year or two from retirement and I don't even see this as a "deal".

The rest of the memo is just threatening.

People need to take this seriously, the US government is being dismantled and guardrails being removed and the American people will be powerless to stop this unless Congress gets it together.
