NP. Fine, let them live in their clutter/ with their treasures. But they at least need to prioritize, identify — and communicate! — what makes the cut when overnight they have to downsize from an entire house to a one or two bedroom apartment. Life happens fast, and family members will be left to scramble. And no one is asking people to end their days in a bare house or apartment. But get your affairs /literal house in order! Start early. Take responsibility. No one is going to escape an inevitable decline and end of life. Don’t be selfish.

You don't give away your stuff at the old age to make it easier for the next generation to clean up. You give away your stuff and make your house in order to come to terms with your own mortality. It's both a physical and mental cleanup before you pass on. There is nothing heartless, cruel or selfish for the young not to want to deal with your mess, because if you leave a mess, it is both physical and mental. We're not immortal. |
