I’ve never understood this argument. Even if we assume for the sake of argument that a fetus is a baby from day one, why does that mean the mother must sacrifice any portion of her body for the child if she does not want to? No one would force a mother to give a kidney to her child, even if most of us agree that she should. We also agree that it is up to the mom to choose whether to give her kidney or not. |
Reasonable policies lead to Amber Thurman’s death and her young son’s being motherless. The Supreme Court interprets the constitutionality of our laws. They’re the highest court in the land and the final authority. The SC ruled in Roe that women have the right to abortion access. After 40+ years of Roe being the law of the land, all 3 of Trump’s SC nominees said they considered it to be settled law. Why would Congress debate settled law? The people who need to explain themselves are the ones who threw out precedent they indicated was settled. |
They don't have to explain themselves. They are happy with the changes. |
Just because you don’t understand a position you don't agree with doesn't mean it is not valid. People do have different opinions than you. This happens. |
Well there it is. That is the beginning of the destruction of maternal health care systems in the abortion ban states. In any case, then Trump is not your man because he is on the record saying that there has to be punishment for the woman. |
I don’t consider myself a single issue voter, but abortion access is weighing very heavily on me during this election. I’ve never had an unplanned or unwanted pregnancy or needed to terminate a wanted pregnancy, but I know how dangerous pregnancy and childbirth are, and I know the sacrifices involved in parenting and I think abortion restrictions are very detrimental. I consider myself lucky that my candidate of choice aligns with my positions on abortion and most other issues, so I don’t have to vote based on abortion alone. If that wasn’t the case, I’m not sure what I’d do. |
Prophet? I'm not an idiot. Abortion has been banned before and it went into the back alley. There's no mystery here. Women will not be forced to give birth against their will. It is simply not possible. You will succeed in a few cases but you will just not be able to win this fight. Not in the past. Not now. and not in the future. |
We’re owed an explanation on their shift from the position they stated under oath before the Senate Judiciary Committee and the Dobbs ruling, but I agree that we’ll never get one. |
OP, you vote for the candidate that supports your issues.
I’ll vote for the candidate that supports mine. You are for free choice, right? My body, my vote. |
You do you. slavery was " legal" in the slave states and lots of candidates supported that position. |
1. What "portion of her body" is the mother sacrificing? 2. There is a difference between not taking extraordinary steps to save a dying child vs proactively terminating the life of one. 3. In vast majority of cases, the mother did something to cause the pregnancy. We want to incentivize women to prevent pregnancy, not to terminate after the fact. |
Go online and find the right recipe. No need for a professional to dilate your canal and terminate that life for you if you act early. Lots of people even agree with that procedure at up to 12-16 weeks. It’s the desire to terminate a child that can survive outside the mother’s body that creeps people out. |
Most people these days don't have much principle. You are overestimating women's resolve. Sure there will be women willing to die to get their abortion but most will go with the flow. They will either keep the baby, go with adoption, or work harder to prevent pregnancy in first place. |
You are equating abortion with slavery? Ok, weirdo. |
Does the fetus get 3/5 of a vote? |
