FCPS Early Release Mondays

Let’s try again a little louder for those who missed it:

FCPS is not doing this because they want to. We already have summer training for the new reading curriculum. This is because of the new Virginia Literacy Act passed by the state government that mandates tons of extra hours of reading training.

Yes we know that. I just wish we could have a few extra teacher work days instead for the training. I also worry that other things will be added for us to do and we won’t just focus on the VDOE stuff. And they still haven’t addressed how to give elementary the planning time that’s already lacking.

You just got public early notice.

Taking away early release Mondays 8 or 9 years ago was a mistake and caused problem. So they should return to that.

I agree. It was mistake to get away from it.

Yes. Elementary teachers have NO TIME. This is needed. More early release Mondays are needed than 7 per year.

It says childcare can be offered. This is also a great time for parents to make those doctor appointments.

FCPS where education takes a backseat to everything else.

Why not end school a week earlier and take that time when very little to do learning is being accomplished? My kid can watch movies at home. This is a very poor decision leaving working parents in very hard situation. The calendar is already disruptive and this makes it worse.

Eliminate 30 min of morning meeting everyday. After 6 years of the Positivity Project, it is hard to stay positive.

Those Mondays will be a complete waste. What will the early release Monday schedule look like in ES, MS and HS? As if we didn’t already lose enough during the pandemic, let’s go take away more learning time.

FCPS totally sucks. It sucks for teachers - pay them some real money, it sucks for parents and mostly it sucks for kids. With the gigantic budget FCPS has, please do better.

Totally insane implementation. Just do more teacher workdays.

It's just ES. Similar to before.

Just stop. It has nothing to do with FCPS. It’s mandated by the state. Call your representative and your governor.

The training may be mandated by the state, but this implementation is squarely FCPS. Let's not conflate the two.
