What schools have started offering from the waitlist?

I don’t know. If finances tight UVA is just as good and save money for grad school. Unless FA made numbers fairly close

Duke is well worth it if you can swing it

Duke is now $89 a year. UVA College of Arts & Sciences in-state is $38. Thats a delta of $51 in after-tax dollars, meaning you have to go out and make $80 to pay the delta. $80k x 4 = $320k extra for Duke. Instead, go to UVA and bank the difference and let it compound and pay for grad school. Thats what we did so can now afford a top law school at an obscene $110k a year.

A few years ago, F & M tried to get my kid to commit before they took her off the list (like they were going to make the offer official if she confirmed in advance that she would accept). We weren’t ready for that since we had not been there for more than a year before and she had accepted elsewhere. It felt like a way to fudge their yield numbers.

My daughter declined.

Someone needs to talk you off the ledge.

I hope you are not putting your kid under this pressure.

Try to be excited about where they did get in. It will be okay. 😳

DP who is excited about where my kid got in, but she and I are both still very interested in a different school's waitlist. We are not on any type of ledge and it doesn't sound like this poster is either.

I think Duke and UVA will read the same way outside the DMV (elite, Southern). Is your daughter likely to return to DC for work? If so, local opinions will apply. UVA will be fine to get into grad school per PP's experience above. If your daughter is happy with UVA's offerings, I would stick with Plan A.

Have a kid there. The opportunities are endless for DC &friends. Paid summer funding to cover unpaid internships . Small classes. And the average Duke student gets into much better law schools.

Not true at all. UVA gets more in. And UVA Law is now ranked 4 in the nation and gives prederence to its own undergrads. . note Duke and UVA are 12 and 13 on the CollegeTransitions list for top feeders to law school list.

Keep trying to justify all that money you’re spending.

UVA is much larger. Duke is well ahead of UVA when the list is adjusted for size.

No regrets (although that would have been a slam dunk if it came in March).

CNU? What's that? And did you take the spot?

Christopher Newport?

CNU is Christopher Newport University. We did NOT take the spot. Went with a medium-sized Jesuit school that offered an aid package similar to the price of CNU for us (in state).

Interesting. My DC was in the same situation and made the same choice (no to CNU, yes to medium-sized Jesuit with final bill comparable to in-state). They are very excited.

Were these merit scholarships? Can you all recommend the Jesuit school?

There's no real difference between post grad opportunities between a UVA and Duke grad. Literally perceived the same

I hate when schools play these games. F&M is not the only one. You can thank USNWR.
