Hopefully Soto will do the same.

You seem nice.

I think democrats are the ones who FAFO.

Imagine Trump winning and Sotomayor having to be replaced. Democrats are too convinced that they control these things, and everyone who thinks ahead and considers this type of stuff are trolls, russians, bots, etc.

so, FAFO.

This would definitely be the ideal outcome for us.

I know several young, healthy conservative judges who would be great candidates once Soto is out.

I think this is the answer.

+1. And it is what should happen if Biden loses. Would the Republicans have mechanisms to stall the confirmation process?

If Biden loses in November, you think Sotomayor will immediately announce her retirement and by Jan 20th a new justice will be seated?

Can I have some of whatever you are smoking? It has to be choice.

that is plenty of time.

Don’t they all leave for long periods of time from Nov-Jan?

Who is they?
Schumer would have to actually be proactive, but it could and should be done.

The people who would have to hold hearings and vote to confirm a new justice.

They show up when called. There is nothing stopping them from being there.
Biden can call a special session, and if they don’t want to hang around long, they can work quickly.

Are you sure they can get a nominee confirmed? There are a bunch of independents in the Senate.
Are you confident Kyrsten Sinema will vote to confirm, after the left sent protesters to disrupt a wedding that she was at?
Joe Manchin is on record that he will vote no on every judge if there are no Republican votes.

This thread is yikes. A "wise but intellectually inferior" fat Latina?

I don’t think the landscape gets better moving forward, but who knows?

“Forget Ruth Bader Ginsburg. It is Sonia Sotomayor who is the greatest liberal to sit on the supreme court in my adult lifetime. The first Latina to hold the position of justice, she has blazed a relentlessly progressive trail on the highest bench in the land.

And so it is with good reason that she has been called the “conscience of the supreme court” (the Nation), “the truth teller of the supreme court” (New York Times) and “the real liberal queen of the court” (Above the Law).

Of course, only Sotomayor knows the full status of her health, still it is public knowledge that she has had type 1 diabetes since she was seven; had paramedics called to her home; and is the only sitting justice to have, reportedly, traveled with a medic. To be clear: she could easily – and God willing – survive a potential Trump second term and still be dishing out dissents from the bench come 2029.“

I was saddened to see this article. The same thoughts have been echoing in my mind. I pray Justice Sotomayor lives a thousand and one days. I know that is an impossibility.

I believe she should consider retirement. The stakes are too high.

Who the hell are you to decide when she needs to retire? She is the same age as My hirf Justice and Zi don't hear you screaming for his retirement. She will retire when she decides, not you.

Hope she doesn’t retire and Trump gets to appoint her replacement.

You are delusional. Trump will be in jail and if there are any Republicans with functioning brains, he will be declared ineligible to be the GOP nominee..

Scalia had diabetes, obesity, COPD, coronary artery disease, high blood pressure, and abused tobacco . He did not resign. He knew he had plenty of health problems

And McConnell was in a position to hold the seat open for a republican. Look at the senate map. No democrat is going to be seated on the court between 2025 and 2027 and likely longer given the map in 2026 isn't exactly favorable for democrats
