I think you all are thinking of this wrong. If you look at the list of schools Caruthers has had over the years there are lots of principals who are replaced. She seems to want them moved or fired after about 10years. I wonder how much of this is “you are done at Lafayette - you can go to Miner or you can leave DCPS”. Anyway you look at it, Miner is a major step down and much much more work than she has ever had. |
There are several principals in the current group she oversees with more than ten years. Let’s see if this theory is true. |
I was told at one point that Miner was interviewing potential principals and they they expected to "have first choice" among them. Is that what actually happened? Does the Miner community feel like she's a good fit? |
Of course not. |
+1 to this. We had a horrific experience with her and our 5 year old that drove us out of the school. She doesn’t care about individual kids in our experience and we know many families who had similar experiences. However, it does seem like many families are happy there. |
Caruthers hates all of her NW schools. I don’t know why these people at DCPS central want to work in education so bad or in DC so bad when they have such hate and disdain for the people they’re supposed to lead. |
Miner parent here. Personally, I’m looking forward to Dr. B. Finally a veteran school leader who isn’t learning on the job! We’ve had 8 principals in 3 years. We need someone with experience. And if teachers leave, well, TBH, some of them should. |
That's insane! DCPS should have stepped in 6 principals ago! |
The problem you will have is it will be a revolving door of teachers. Teachers come in believing her during interviews and last one year - maybe two. So just be prepared that you may have a constant principal but not teaching force. |
Agree. I do think she will likely feel like a breath of stability, and she does come across like a friendly, personable person. You'll think all good things.... until you start hearing stories from the teachers. Maybe it will be a net positive for Miner but forwarned is forearmed. |
I hope she works well for you. Or this is DCPS's way to get rid of her. |
I'm going to enjoy seeing her navigate a majority-Black school. It's really going to limit her arsenal of weapons to remove the ability to call everyone who disagrees with her a racist. Or who knows; maybe she'll still try... |
Maybe Carrie has finally pissed off the wrong people. |
I don't know why some people think it's a demotion. I think a lot of principals who choose DCPS do so because they want to work with populations like Miner's. If she wanted a suburban-like experience for the rest of her career, she would apply for jobs in the suburbs. I doubt DCPS has any issues with her (even though lots of parents do). It's clear to me that DCPS isn't going to put a lot of effort into managing the desires of upper NW parents, so this was move is not for them. They clearly agree with her methods. I think they've have asked her to take this job on because they think of her as a star.

Quite possible, for sure. But its a smaller school. Even with the title 1 boost, she'll be paid less I believe. Most recent data says she made 190K last year. Dance made 174K but he started with DCPS only a year after her. Trying to figure out the math. |
